Our Lady’s Assumption Open Day

We are hosting an Open Day and School Tour for prospective families on Wednesday 29 May at 9.30am. If you know of any families that may be interested in attending this event, please feel free to collect an information pack from the office to pass onto them. Bookings for the Open Day are also available via the School Facebook page and Website.

Sacrament of Confirmation Parent-Child Workshop

On Wednesday night, our Year 6 Confirmation candidates, along with their parents, joined with the Parish for the Confirmation Parent-Child Workshop. Claire Broad from CEWA facilitated the workshop and led the students and families in an engaging reflection on the meaning of Confirmation in their lives today and as they get older. Thank you to Father Ken and the Parish for coordinating the Sacrament of Confirmation at OLA. A reminder to all families, that the sacraments are parish-based, and the school will support the parish wherever possible, however, all decisions about the sacraments are made by the OLA Parish.

P&F Volunteers

At OLA, our many community events rely on the help of parent volunteers. Our wonderful P&F work tirelessly to ensure that there are numerous activities on offer throughout the year for our families. Unfortunately, the number of additional volunteers has been quite low this year and we may need to cancel some of the planned events. If you are able to assist in any way, for any event, then please contact the P&F directly. Further information about volunteer positions can be found on the P&F page of this newsletter and previous newsletters. Thank you to those families who always volunteer their time for school events, we truly appreciate all that you do for our community.

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday, our students took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime reading of, Alpacas with Maracas. The children thoroughly enjoyed the book and a BIG thank you to Mrs Dale for coordinating the event. More information can be found on the Library page of this newsletter.

Scitech and STEM Club at OLA

Commencing in Term 3, Scitech will be offering a STEM/Robotics Club at OLA. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Consent for Use of Student Images

Next week you will receive a letter regarding the consent for use of student images. Although a letter was sent home last year, the revised letter will ask for consent for ALL social media and both internal and external school publications (e.g. newsletter and school annual). In consultation with the CEWA Marketing department, we have been advised consent will need to be given for all use or no use. As you can appreciate it is too difficult and stressful for staff members to monitor and ensure the parent approved photos are uploaded, hence, as advised, we have decided to implement an ‘all’ or ‘none’ – there will not be the option to opt out of some publications. I thank you all for your understanding and supporting the new decision.

Mother’s Day Video

Here is the video compilation that was put together for our Mother’s Day celebrations.

Congratulations Alexis

Congratulations to Alexis in Year 6. Alexis has qualified for trampoline gymnastics and will be attending the Australian Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne being held later this month. She has qualified for under 13 tumbling and double mini trampoline. Alexis has been doing trampolining for just over a year after swapping from artistic gymnastics. Her local club is Star-Mites Gymsports in Bassendean.

She recently came second in both her events at the State Championships. Alexis has also been selected as a member of the Western Australian Trampoline Gymnastics State Team. Well done!

Pupil Free Days

Friday 31 May and Tuesday 4 June are Pupil Free Days for the students as the OLA staff will be attending two Professional Development Days.

On Friday 31 May, staff will begin looking at the Brightpath initiative with a focus on writing. This tool aims to upskill teachers to analyse students’ writing and provide them with quality feedback and clear goals to improve their writing. This is a long-term project that OLA is undertaking and over the next 18 months we will be implementing more of the program.

On Tuesday 4 June, Fr. Richard Leonard will be facilitating the day focusing on, How can Catholic Education form believers in a media saturated culture? It is sure to be another thought-provoking day and we are very fortunate to have Fr. Richard return to OLA, we will also be joined by St Joseph’s School, Moora.

Special Anniversary

Last week, St Denis Parish celebrated the two significant anniversaries of Fra Chris and Fra Myles. This special celebration saw the Church community acknowledge the years of service of these two Friars. Fra Chris has served the community for 65 years and Fra Myles has served the community for 61 years. We congratulate both Friars on these outstanding milestones.
