Principal’s Message – Issue Thirty Six

Prayer for Graduates

This is a special day in the life of the graduates.
As they embark on the next chapter in their lives, we pray
that the same hand that has kept them thus far will continue to be in their lives.
May Your hand of protection be about them, and may Your Word continue to be
a light unto their path. Help them to make wise decisions and to always keep
You first in everything that they do.

Amen

Volunteers’ Morning Tea

On Thursday morning, we celebrated the valuable contributions of our volunteers. Our school community is strengthened by the generosity of those who give their time to the classroom, on excursions and during special events. Sincere thanks for all that you have done, and continue to do, for OLA.

Graduation

On Monday night we will be celebrating our wonderful Year 6 students as they graduate from OLA. Father Ken will be leading us in Mass to acknowledge the accomplishments of these students as they have flourished at OLA. The Graduation Dinner Dance will be held on Thursday night in the Sr. Goretti Hall. It is bound to be two memorable nights for our graduates and their families.

Year 6 Student Leaders 2020

Congratulations to all of the Year 5 students for presenting their Leadership speeches last week. Students from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, as well as staff, voted for their three preferred candidates. It is with great pleasure that I announce the attached student leaders for 2020.

Staffing 2020

Further to last week’s correspondence about staffing placements, I advise the following for 2020:

  • Mr Justin Kirry has accepted a permanent position at St Luke’s School, Woodvale. Justin has resigned from his position at OLA and we will acknowledge Justin’s contributions to our school community at the End of Year Mass on Friday 13 December.
  • Mr Ciaran Allsop has been appointed as the new OLA Sport teacher for 2020.
  • We welcome Mrs Felicity Creagh, who will commence in 2020 as our new Chaplaincy (Social) Worker. Felicity comes with a wide range of experience, including King Edward Memorial Hospital and the Department for Child Protection.

We look forward to welcoming Ciaran and Felicity into our community next year.

Class Lists and Transition for 2020

Class lists for 2020 will be added to the noticeboard outside the office next Friday afternoon. All students will participate in a whole school transition on Monday 9 December and Tuesday 10 December, visiting their 2020 class with their 2020 cohort and teacher (if possible).

2020 Invitation to all Students

Further to our transition program occurring on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 December, parents are invited to bring their children on 30 January or 31 January, 2020 to once again meet their teachers, bring their stationery and booklists and possibly be allocated their seat. We’re hoping the students won’t feel as anxious over the weekend leading up to the start of the new school year on Monday 3 February, 2020. If parents are not able to bring their children on the above stated days, they will be welcomed on the first day of school, which is Monday 3 February, 2020.

Earn and Learn

It is fantastic to see that through our combined support of Woolworths, purchases to enhance our Bubs Play at OLA, OSHC and classrooms could be made. We also thank Adam for generously offering all of our students a fruit snack at the end of the day. Thanks also to Connor, from the Fruit and Veg Department, for attending as well.
