Leadership Message – Issue Eighteen

A Student’s Prayer for a New School Term

Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin this new school term. Allow me to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before me. Open my eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school term brings. Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers. Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities. Help me to be attentive to my teachers and let me experience Your presence in my new friends. Jesus, inspire me to do my best this term!
Amen

Leadership Message – Issue Eighteen

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back. I hope you all had a restful break. Term 4 promises to be another jam-packed term with so many events being scheduled each week. We’re hoping the Phase 4 restrictions will be lifted soon so we can proceed with our end of year school concert. Let’s pray it goes ahead.

Faction Carnival – Sausage Sizzle and Morning Tea

A reminder the Faction Athletics Carnival is scheduled for Thursday 15 October, as indicated in the OLA Term Planner attached to last term’s newsletter.

As mentioned, the canteen will be closed for the day, however, we will be having a sausage sizzle and cake stall at the venue (cake stall for the parents only). The sausage sizzle and fruit box/water will need to be pre-ordered for the students. Parents and spectators will be able to purchase sausage sizzles, cake stall items, juice boxes, soft drinks and water on the day.

We are asking parents to donate cakes and different morning tea items, for the staff to sell to parents on the day. If you’re able to donate a cake (with the ingredients clearly labelled) please bring the items to the oval on the day, or leave them in the School Office before school, or pass them on to our canteen manageress, Maria, who will be coordinating the items. A coffee van has been organised and will also be on-site. Students will not be able to purchase morning tea on the day and are requested to bring their own morning tea, drink bottles and lunch (if not ordering a sausage in a bun). Attached is the order form.

Please note, the regular Canteen menu (through QuickCliq) will not be available on the day.

Canteen – Money

Commencing this term, the canteen will, once again, be selling items over the counter at recess and lunchtimes. Money will be exchanged with the change given to students being sanitised, until Phase 5 is implemented. Parents no longer need to order items normally sold over the counter, such as hash browns, ice creams, etc, online, however we encourage parents to continue to order their children’s lunches via the website.

Parking – Dianella Plaza

We have been advised parents are illegally parking their vehicles on the verge and road at Dianella Plaza (red line on the attached photo). The centre has kindly allowed our parents to park on their site, however, we ask that you park in the designated parking bays and not on the verge. Thank you for your support with the above.

Walk for Water – Caritas Article

Congratulations to all the students who took part in the ‘Walk for Water’ initiative last term. An article, about our successful initiative, has been included in the ‘Caritas News’ which is an Australia wide magazine. Thank you to Mary Barclay and Vanessa Knight for coordinating the event. Below is the link to the article. https://www.caritas.org.au/docs/default-source/newsroom—in-the-news/caritasnews-spring-2020.pdf?download=true%27

Altar Server Training

The OLA Parish invites all students in Years 4-6 to attend altar server training on Sunday 8 November at 4pm. Fr Ken, Franco Miranda and Nathan Leber (Safeguarding Officer) will meet the children in the Fr O’Mara Centre for a pizza snack followed by training in the church. Families may then like to stay for 5pm Mass after the training session.

Soccer Balls – Thank you

A huge thank you to Bruno Marocchi, a grandparent at our school, who donated soccer balls to the school. It brings back memories of playing soccer with Bruno in the 80’s. Thanks Bruno!

Thank you and I hope to see the you at our Faction Carnival. A reminder Phase 4 Restrictions are still in place and parents are requested to adhere to the rules.

Outside School Hours Care Registered Areas

A reminder to all families and students that they are not permitted to enter the Outside School Hours Care registered area unless they are attending the service. The registered area is located outside the Year 2 classrooms. We ask all families and students to please remain outside this area before and after school. Thank you for your support with this.

Book Week

Please refer to the Library page of this newsletter for information regarding Book Week events at OLA next week.

Thank you.
