Leadership Message – Issue Nine

O most Holy Trinity, bless me with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Please give me wisdom so that I may recognise the importance of others and keep God central in my life.
Please, also, pray for me and my family.
With my voice and my heart, I glorify You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
You are great and do wonderful things.
You alone are my God.
All praise and honour and glory are yours now and forever,
O most Holy Trinity!

Amen

Leadership Message – Issue Nine

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Sacrament of Penance

Congratulations to all our Year 3 students who received the Sacrament of Penance last Thursday night. A huge thank you to Elaine Fruvall, Jodie McCarthy, Vanessa Knight and the Parish Catechist Teachers, Franco and Maria, who prepared the children for the celebration and for coordinating the events. A huge thank you to Nathan Leber for the beautiful music and to Fr Ken and the other priests present for their spiritual guidance and support during the evening. Thank you to our Assistant Principals, Rebecca Smith and Michael Morris, for supporting the Year 3 staff in coordinating the special event.

Resignation – Elaine Fruvall

I would like to take this opportunity to advise you all that Elaine Fruvall has resigned from her position at OLA, effective Wednesday 30 June (Week 11). Elaine has accepted a position at WISE Pre-School in Carine and will be commencing, in her new role, at the beginning of Term 3.

To ensure there is continuity and stability in the Year 3G classroom, our senior teacher, Anella Tollis, will be taking over Elaine’s position and team teaching with Jodie McCarthy, commencing Week One – Term 3. Anella has worked tirelessly with the Year 3 students over the last few years and there is a strong connection there with the students. Commencing Term 3, Jodie will be the classroom teacher every Monday and Tuesday and Anella Wednesday to Friday.

I would like to sincerely congratulate Elaine on her recent appointment and wish her all the best in her new role – she will be sadly missed!

New Furniture at OLA

The Year 6 classroom and the Curiosity Lab furniture have finally arrived! A huge thank you to the OLA School Advisory Council for allocating the funds to purchase the Year 6 furniture and to our wonderful P&F for providing the funds for the Curiosity Lab. The students are very excited!

Pupil Free Day

Friday 4 June is a pupil free day with all staff attending a Professional Development Day with Dr Nathan Leber. If you require care for your children, the OLA OSHC will be operating as normal and are accepting enrolments. Please email Kristen at kristen.ruffo@cewa.edu.au or at oshc@ola.wa.edu.au if you would like to enrol your children for this coming Friday.

School Office Closed – Friday 4 June

The Administration staff will be attending the Professional Development Day on Friday hence the office will be closed. The office will reopen on Tuesday at 8.00am.

Cluedunnit Movie Night

After many hours of investigating, planning, filming and editing, The Year 6 REACH group showcased the Cluedunnit films to their families on Tuesday night. Throughout the past term, the students have participated in a competition run by the Law Society of Western Australia where they had to investigate the crime presented to them and work out who the main suspect is. The students used their critical and creative thinking skills to decipher the evidence, prove the guilt of the main suspect and then sentence the main suspect and accomplices accordingly. The students then planned, filmed and edited their 5-7 min films. Collaboration and communication were also very important during this task. A big congratulations to the students for their dedication in completing the task in a professional manner. Your parents and teachers are so proud of your efforts.

Updated OLA Calendar

A friendly reminder the interactive school calendar, on the OLA Website, is updated regularly and parents are requested to double check the scheduled events online. As a guide, parents may check the PDF version issued at the beginning/end of each term, however these events will need to be cross referenced with the online OLA calendar.

Interschool Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all the students who took part in last week’s Interschool Swimming Carnival. I am very proud of their achievements and efforts and in discussion with Ciaran Allsop, and commencing in Term 4, 2021, a six-month OLA swimming club program will be coordinated to train the students for both the intra and interschool carnivals. Students will be invited to train for the events, with parents taking over the training sessions during the Christmas holidays. Watch this space!

School Photos – Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 June

We are looking forward to having our school photos taken later this term. Parents please note that Years 1-6 are required to wear full academic uniform on both of these days, this includes the school jumper (old or new). Pre-Kindergarten photos will be taken on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 October, while the Year 6 Graduation Photo will be taken on Thursday 14 October. (These dates may be subject to change pending circumstance).

Circuit Morning Fitness

Since introducing the daily morning fitness program, students have participated actively in the program, with music playing in the background. We now would like to move to the next phase of the morning fitness program and organise circuit activities, with planned sporting activities for the students, on a daily basis. To achieve our aim of an organised circuit for the students, we require parent assistance at each station, on a daily basis. If you’re able to assist, and it doesn’t have to be every day, please email Ciaran at ciaran.allsop@cewa.edu.au who currently organises the morning fitness program. Once parents indicate their support for the program by volunteering to assist, Ciaran will coordinate a roster and distribute to all volunteers. Looking forward to your support and assistance with the above.

Long Service Leave

This is my last week at OLA as I will be taking Long Service Leave for the remainder of 2021 and will be returning for the beginning of 2022. Michael Morris will be taking over as Principal during my absence, and I wish him every success in his new role. To all the families moving on at the end of 2021, I wish you all the best and hope our paths cross again in the future. Take care, stay safe, enjoy the rest of the school year and I will see you all in 2022.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Thank you.

Greg Martin, Michael Morris and Rebecca Smith
