Cybersafety – A Parent’s Guide to Fortnite
This term, I have had at least ten parents raise the topic of a particular game, Fortnite. The game has been around for a couple of years now but hasn’t lapsed in its popularity. Most discussion has centred around the appropriateness of the game and the perceived addictiveness of the game.
For parents of students who already play the game, this clip from Behind The News (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4T2nhCQoPs), which is an Australian produced children’s news service, spends the first two minutes discussing the addictiveness component of Fortnite and how the British government explored this in 2019. It could be used as a discussion starter in your home if you would like to address the amount of Fortnite being played.
If you have children asking if they can play Fortnite, then the two posters attached include a lot of questions that parents ask about the game and also includes an overview of the game to help you understand exactly what is going on.
I hope you find the above information useful.
