LifeLink 2020

The LifeLink program for Catholic Schools is very exciting this year. As students from other schools couldn’t get together, we celebrated being involved by creating a special movie from OLA for LifeLink. The Official Launch was Wednesday June 3, however, this year, we can celebrate any time during the year.

This year LifeLink will help 34,000 Western Australians. We are asked to respond with love, care and practical assistance. Some examples of the agencies that LifeLink support are; Centrecare, Emmaus Community, Shopfront and Identity WA.

Goals of LifeLink Day include:

  • Sharing how the church responds to people in need;
  • Reminding us that we have a responsibility to help others;
  • Sharing information about agencies who help others in need;
  • Encouraging people to be generous.

We are loving getting right back into our Ministry work in Year 6!

Christian Leadership Ministry

Caritas K’s – Walk for Water

Did you know that many children are forced to walk kilometres to collect water for daily needs each day?

On Tuesday 16 June the Christian Ministry will be hosting the Walk for Water.  Children will need to bring a bucket on this day. The children will collect water from a designated spot at the school and then carry their water all the way around the school and deposit it back into another spot.

Sponsor sheets were sent home last week and can be brought back on the day. Hopefully this will not only be a wonderful fundraiser for Caritas, but also bring a sense of awareness for those people who cannot simply turn on the tap when they want a drink of water.

Your support and generosity during Project Compassion help people in Australia and around the world shape a better future for themselves, their family and community. Together we can stand in solidarity with our global community.

Please help us make a difference for those less fortunate in the world.

And as we say in Year 6; Live Wisely, Think Deeply and Love Generously.

Sport – Mr McIntyre – The Year Six Sports Ministry will be performing and recording two fitness dances that every class in the school can ‘BOP’ along to. The boys will perform their very own version of the ‘Chicken Dance’, while the girls will give a performance of ‘Dance Monkey’.

The videos will be posted to Teams so that all classes can dance along at a time and place of their choosing.

Events Ministry – Mr Morris – The students in this Ministry are doing a great job with Monday morning announcements over the PA for all the school to hear about what’s going on at OLA during the week. They are also introducing the return of the Golden Broom and the introduction of the Golden Bin. Stay tuned for more information.

Sustainability Ministry – Mrs Barclay – Our first “Wasteless Wednesday” was this week, and will continue each week! Our goal is to reduce the amount of wrappers students bring in their lunches. There’s a prize for the year level that participates really well. Promoting the sustainability attitude of OLA is one of our goals. The Sustainability Ministry has also enjoyed our garden and using our worm farm to fertilise the garden. The beans, tomatoes and watermelon vine are still growing beautifully and our very own carrots and capsicum have been very tasty!

Other news from Enterprise and Innovation

Mozzerella Meetings with Mr Martin – Pizza with the principal is back for the Year 6 students. It’s delicious and a good chat for everyone!

Year 1G have been very creative with their individual Lego designs of an insect. They have spent a number of classes planning, designing, and writing about their insects as part of their Design and Technology program. 1M will begin their designs this week and continue for another couple of weeks. This initiative has been developed because Year Ones have definitely been the most enthusiastic children for our Thursday lunchtime Lego Club! Remember:

LEGO CLUB EVERY THURSDAY AT BOTH LUNCHES!!!

CHESS CLUB IS BACK!  Tuesdays at 8am and now at both lunches as well!
