Wheels Day at OLA!
Our first Wheels Day was amazing! On Friday last week, all students were invited to: WEAR FREE DRESS, BRING THEIR WHEELS TO SCHOOL, CONTRIBUTE A GOLD COIN TO WHEELCHAIRS FOR KIDS AND EXPERIENCE WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE IN A WHEELCHAIR! What a great day!
We raised a lot of money (over $1000) and even more importantly, we made children aware that a lot of children world-wide require a wheelchair to move around, and we have the opportunity to help them! As of Monday, every child at OLA from PP-Year 6 will be able to wear their newly donated Wheelchairs for Kids (WFK) hat with pride!
Staff have been making donations to WFK as we are able to wear jeans/denim on Fridays. We will continue this initiative next year as well. Children collected ring pulls all year long, which also go to WFK. It is all managed by Wheelchairs for Kids and a great way to combine sustainable practices with making donations for such an important cause.
Thanks to all the children who brought their wheels to school on Friday and thanks to the parents, students and staff who made it all happen. Well done!
