Book Week is coming in Week 5!

The theme this year is: Reading is my secret power!

This year’s events include:

  • Monday 19 August – Thursday 22 August

Pre-Loved Book Sale: Before & after school, come and grab a bargain and buy our pre-loved books for 20c per book. The book stall will be held outside the library (weather permitting) until stocks last. All proceeds will be donated to Brother Olly’s Wheelchairs for Kids Appeal.

Illustration Competition: Students can draw a picture of themselves as a superhero and describe their superpowers to enter our competition. Make it colourful and detailed, on an A4 sheet of paper. Entries must be handed into the Library by 1pm on Thursday 22 August to be considered.

Age categories for prize winners are:

  • Pre-Kindy, Kindy & Pre-Primary
  • Year 1, 2 & 3
  • Year 4, 5 & 6

Winners will be announced on Tuesday 27 August and included in the Week 6 newsletter.

  • Wednesday 21 August

Dress – Up Parade, 8.50am: Dress up as your favourite book character and bring the book along for our whole school parade. Parents and families are welcome to join us for this celebration of our favourite characters.

Write a Book in a Day Presentation: Following the dress-up parade, the students involved in this year’s Write a Book in a Day Competition will present their fabulous creation to the school, led by Ms Belinda Mitchell.

  • Thursday 22 August

Meg Caddy: Year 5 and Year 6 students will be attending a talk by Meg Caddy at Dianella Library at 1.30pm. Meg is an accomplished writer who has a passion for storytelling, lizards and pirates! This promises to be a real treat for these students.

Our goal for Book Week is to inspire a love of reading in every student. Enjoy reading for fun, relaxation or as a way to escape to a fantasy world for a while!

At home we encourage you all to share this love of reading by enjoying a favourite book together or trying something new.

Happy reading!
