Prayer

Lord our God, your glory shines upon the earth so that we may rejoice in all your loving kindness, spread out your hands in blessing over all people. Spread your blessing over the happy and the sad, over the courageous and the weak. Shepherd them in your love, in the great grace you have given through Jesus Christ, confirmed in us through the Holy Spirit. Help us every day so that we can reach the goal you have set for us, for many others, and finally for all people of the earth.

Amen

Bubs Play at OLA

Expressions of interest are now open for a Bubs Playgroup to be held at OLA on Fridays. The playgroup will cater for children 0-4 years old. With the Bubs Play located on our school site there is the added benefit that children and families become familiar with the school environment and build relationships with staff, which benefits both families and the children. Please complete the online form by Friday 24 May to register your interest.

Woolworths Earn and Learn

It’s that time of year again, Woolworths Earn and Learn is back! Please drop your stickers into the OLA boxes located outside the office and at Dianella Plaza. I wonder if we can beat last year’s total!

NAPLAN

Well done to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who completed their 2019 NAPLAN assessments this week. We are very proud of the perseverance and resilience you demonstrated this week as you took part in the national testing. You should all be very proud of yourselves. It is pleasing to note that we did not experience any connectivity issues during our testing, special thanks to West Coast ICT and Mr Morris for working to ensure all ran smoothly with the new online setup.

Congratulations

A BIG congratulations to Ben in Year 6 who is part of the Eastern Phantoms Baseball team that has been selected to compete in the National Championships in Lismore NSW next month. They will compete against 15 other charters around the country for the honour of representing Australia at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, U.S.A in August. We wish you all the best, Ben.

Pupil Free Days

Friday 31 May and Tuesday 4 June are Pupil Free Days for the students as the OLA staff will be attending two Professional Development Days.

On Friday 31 May, staff will begin looking at the Brightpath initiative with a focus on writing. This tool aims to upskill teachers to analyse students’ writing and provide them with quality feedback and clear goals to improve their written work. This is a long-term project that OLA is undertaking, and over the next 18 months we will be implementing more of the program.

On Tuesday 4 June, Fr. Richard Leonard will be facilitating the day focusing on, How can Catholic Education form believers in a media-saturated culture? It is sure to be another thought-provoking day and we are very fortunate to have Fr. Richard return to OLA, we will also be joined by St Joseph’s School, Moora.
