RICE is Alive at OLA!

Kindergarten M

This term has been unique is so many different ways and our Kindy children have shown fantastic resilience with the many changes. We are missing not being together in our Kindy M family but are keeping in touch with friends at home and completing many of the same fun activities that we can share in together!

We have been exploring nature at Kindy and have been looking for positives in nature through exploring how we can grow seeds. We have planted seeds and are patiently watching them grow! We also thought about how we can show or ‘plant’ our own seeds of kindness by completing kind deeds for friends and family. Creating special ‘Gratitude Nature Sculptures’ has been another way to search for positives. We thought of ways that we can be grateful in our lives and created special leaves with these thoughts to go on our sculptures.

We have also learnt more about what it means to have integrity. We listened to the story, Pig the Fibber, by Aaron Blabey and discussed the choices Pig the Pug made, and how he needed to learn to show integrity. We learnt about how integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. In class we have been working hard to show integrity during our learning and play. We discussed how we can be fair when sharing toys, taking turns in our learning areas and by making good choices with our friends.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary M

We have so enjoyed having the children return to PPM with smiles, confidence and independence. We celebrated the news of Mrs Galipo’s new baby and the children have welcomed Miss Rosso to PPM with enthusiasm and delight.

In Health, we have been learning about warning signs, and went for a walk around the school and looked out of the gates to see signs in our community. We realised our body can give us warning signs too, these help us to make good choices and keep us safe. We have talked about integrity together through videos, stories and role plays and now have an understanding that it is all about making good choices and honesty in our words and actions. We can also help each other to make good choices, so our games are fair and safe at school.

Year 1M

We are so happy to be back and to see our friends in 1M! We are enjoying learning and playing together again. This term we are learning about our school value of integrity. We brainstormed the different ways we show being honest and truthful in our actions so that we make good choices in the classroom and the playground.

We also miss our parents coming into our classroom to help us with our reading. The children are working so hard in the small group activities independently. We are reading informational texts about minibeasts and we are learning how to write reports. We are enjoying collaborating with a partner to create digital texts about minibeasts using the Book Creator app.

Thank you parents for all your support with your child’s remote learning, it was wonderful seeing your child’s achievements on Seesaw.

Mrs Tina Ravi

Year 2M

It has been wonderful to have all of our lovely Year 2s back at school. The students have been working so hard and having a lot of fun along the way. In class, we researched the meaning of integrity, and came up with a definition: Integrity is choosing to do the right thing, even when people aren’t watching. We decided to make posters to inform others about what integrity means. We talk about integrity in our daily discussions and we point out this value when we see it in each other.

Mrs Simone Taylor

Year 3M

The 3M students have worked hard to get back into the swing of things after an interesting few weeks of home learning. We started off by revising our school RICE values and have been specifically focusing on integrity. We talked about ensuring that we do the right thing at all times without having to be reminded and the students could relate this to the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. We trust those people who always show integrity by being honest, trustworthy and always doing the right thing.

Over the past few weeks we have had many opportunities to demonstrate the value of integrity by working in both small groups and independently. In writing, we have been exploring different types of informal letters including postcards and thank you letters and in grammar we have explored prefixes and how the meaning of words can change by adding just a few letters to the beginning of words. In Religion, we have been looking at the different times, places, reasons and forms of prayer, and attempting to cover each of these in class. In Art, we went along with the season of Autumn and created minibeasts on the autumn coloured leaves we created. We can’t wait to show our parents all of our hard work so far this term.

Year 4M

It is so lovely to have all students back at school for Term 2, I am so proud of our students settling into the new routines so quickly. 4M have been focusing on our school value of integrity. In our discussions we have come to an understanding that we can show integrity to ourselves and others by making good choices, even when no one is looking.

4M has been working hard in all learning areas, students have been measuring in centimetres and millimetres, and converting measurements into centimetres and metres. They have also focused on subtraction in the thousands and have been re-grouping beautifully! In English, students have written a procedure text on ‘Decorating a Candle for Mother’s Day’. Making anything for our Mum is always filled with loads of love and wonderful memories.

Mrs Maree Musca

Year 5M

In Year 5M the students have returned to school and have quickly settled back to their usual routine. They have shown great determination over the past month and every student showed their capability to achieve well across the curriculum. The students displayed integrity at the beginning of the term through their independence in completing online learning tasks.

Over the past few weeks, we have explored the measurement and calculations of angles, how to compare equivalent fractions, how to expand on noun phrases, research influential icons of the world to create a biography and focused on living Gospel Values and the importance of receiving Holy Communion. The students have displayed integrity in both working collectively with peers and independently. The students should feel very proud of the integrity that they have demonstrated this term.

Miss Stephanie Figueira

Year 6M

It’s all about integrity in Year 6.  In Health, we have looked at racism, tolerance and bullying.  These are big issues that affect us on a day to day basis, and we need to make sure we use integrity and stand up for what is true and right.

We really have started the term running, and Ms Knight is so proud of the work we are producing.  We are loving reading the novel, Holes, and have created some descriptions about the yellow-spotted lizards we read about in Chapter 8.  We have also been creating some fabulous art pieces, including our peacocks.  Please note these are work in progress.

PS. We hope you all loved the wings that we created last term.

Loving it in Year 6!
