Physical Education

Pre-Primary

Pre-Primary students have been practising fundamental movement skills throughout the term and exploring all the different types of movements our bodies can perform. We have learnt to respect our bodies when performing movements so we can stay safe and have fun. We have also shown respect to our classmates when performing movements such as waiting for a turn on obstacle courses, or giving each other personal space to move around our play area.

Year 1 and 2

We have learnt to be respectful to our peers by taking on different roles and sharing positions in cricket. We have taken turns at having the responsibility to be batters, bowlers, fielders, and wicket keepers. We have also learnt to be respectful to those that are new to learning the game of cricket.

Year 3 and 4

Years 3 and 4 have been participating in learning the skills of tee-ball and executing these skills in gameplay. We have been respectful by showing patience to practice the skills before entering a game situation to help build skills. We have also shown respect to each other by creating a batting order for everyone to compete in games, and sharing fielding positions.

Year 5 and 6

We have been practising and finetuning cricket skills and exploring rules and situations that can be explored in games. We have been respectful of each other and understanding that there is a mix of skill and ability in our respective classes. We have also shown respect by helping other students in games on how to perfect their skills and improve in certain areas. Also being respectful and compliant of our girl-boy-girl-boy bowling and batting responsibility in games, which gives all students the opportunity to contribute to the lesson.

Science

Pre Primary

We have been singing songs about living and non-living things. We have learnt that we must respect and care for living things, like our seedlings in the garden beds and the wriggly worms in our worm farm. We know humans need food, water and sleep to survive. We also show respect by listening carefully in Science lessons and by sharing our ideas when we put up our hand to speak.

Year 1

In Science we have been learning to respect living and non-living things. We have looked at what plants and animals need to stay alive and how we need look after our environment. We know kangaroos live in the bush, eat grass and that they have long tails to help them balance. We have worked respectfully in our groups to produce some work to be proud of this term.

Year 2

We have been learning about how we grow and change. We show respect in our Science lessons by listening carefully and sharing our equipment with others. We have enjoyed learning about the life cycles of plants and animals.

Year 3

We are learning to classify things as living, non-living, once living and products of living things. Along the way we have shown respect for living things and non-living things. We do this by handling our meal worms carefully, or sharing our Science equipment in our groups cheerfully. We are also learning to show respect to others by remaining quiet when others are speaking and following our teacher’s instructions.

Year 4

We have been learning about the cassowary bird, that it is the guardian of the Daintree Rainforest.

We have shown respect and care while planting out our tomatoes. Some of us have taken care of the tomato plants by watering them regularly each morning. We have also shown respect by helping others learn how to use our new computer functions.

Year 5

We have worked respectfully in our Science groups to make our models of root systems and to test our root systems. We have shown respect in our Science room by taking care of our equipment and tidying up after ourselves when we complete our experiments.

Year 6

We have shown respect to our peers during group work this term. We worked cooperatively while conducting our grass growing experiments and growing yeast experiments. We have shared our ideas about the different animals and plants that are found in the rainforest. Some of us have worked collaboratively to create Power Points about each aspect of the different layers in the rainforest biome.

Library

Mrs Dale has been discussing how we can all show respect in the Library, as well as with our family, friends and teachers. Students agreed that we should listen carefully to others, use our manners, tidy up after ourselves and look after our books and games. It was a delight to see them all put these simple measures into practise.
