RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Primary

On Friday 21 June, we went on an exciting excursion to Scitech. We watched a puppet show and had a play with all the science activities. We kept learning and playing at Discoverland with our friends. For a lot of us, the most exciting part was the bus trip! The Pre-Primary children were again commended on their fantastic behaviour on excursion, well done to all our boys and girls!

In class, we have been finding out about superheroes and how we can all be superheroes too. We are learning to be respectful, to help people, to be honest and have integrity, and how making mistakes is ok because that is how we learn to do things better. We are all aiming to use our own special powers for good!

Year 2

In HASS this term, we have been learning about how children lived in the ‘olden days’ and comparing this to our lives today. We visited the Kalamunda History Village last week and had a hands-on experience of what life was like 50-100 years ago. At the Kalamunda History Village, we got to experience what it was like to go to school and compared this to our classroom today. Our favourite part was playing with the ‘olden day’ toys, some were easy others were a little tricky, but we had so much fun learning about the toys. When we were on the excursion, we showed compassion towards our peers, teachers, parent helpers and tour guides by listening to instructions and being kind towards each other.

In Literacy this week, we were super busy practising our writing skills, and we got to write a detailed recount about our excursion to the Kalamunda History Village. We started by talking to our peers and teachers about all of the amazing things we got to do, learn and experience at the History Village. We enjoyed writing our recounts as it allowed us to write down all of the fun memories that we made on the excursion.

Year 4

As Semester One comes to a close, we have been reflecting on all of the work we have done in Year 4 so far. A focus of ours has been to become independent learners, using the resources available to us as well as teacher instruction and direction to guide our journey. We continue to develop the skills to be collaborative learners and use our devices to enhance our learning.

In Year 4, excellence has been at the forefront of our minds, and this was most evident during the Cross Country last week. All runners tried their very best to excel at the enduring event and the persistence demonstrated made all of those who came along feel very proud. The encouragement shown was a credit to the Year 4s, a true display of the value of excellence.

Year 6

Our Parliamentary studies came to life when we visited the Western Australian Parliament House. Each class was treated to a tour throughout the building hearing the many stories, history of the building and its many characters over the years. We were fortunate to have visited on a Parliamentary Sitting Day. Mr McGowan was in great form keeping the opposition “honest”. We spent the remainder of the day at the King’s Park, May Drive Playground. Mr D and Miss Figueira set our boundaries at the park and left us to play, explore and enjoy the facilities.

Our classroom studies have included Cyber Security and how it relates to our Year 6 age group. We discussed the many negative and positive aspects of the internet and how we incorporate them into our school and home lives, ensuring that we model respect through digital citizenship.
