RICE is Alive at OLA!

Sport

Term 4 has been incredibly busy in Sport.

We commenced the term with our Faction Sports Carnival. With the new venue proving popular with both students and teachers, classes from Pre Primary to Year 6 enjoyed a day of track events and team games. The Carnival was won by O’Mara and Goretti awarded the Endeavour trophy for sportsmanship and cheering.

In Week 3, selected students represented OLA in the CPSSA Athletics carnival at the State Athletics Centre in track and field events and highly competitive Leader ball. We had some outstanding performances throughout the day but the highlight was OLA winning the Grand Relay in the final event. We finished in second place overall.

Students in Year 5 have been learning cricket this term and were looking forward to displaying their skills in tennis, ultimate frisbee and cricket in the Summer Carnival. Unfortunately, due to extreme hot weather, this Carnival was cancelled in the best interest of the students and teachers involved.

Students in Year 5 were rewarded with a basketball clinic from Perth Lynx players Alison and Jewel in Week 7. Some of our girls have been playing basketball together for a number of years and were in awe of the players standing before them. The boys thought the clinics were fun also.

Students from Years 3-6 have been participating in Swimming Club at Chisholm College pool on Wednesday mornings. We have had over 30 participants in this club, covering all strokes and building on racing speed. I would like to thank Joneen Scott for her assistance and support at this club.

This was our last week of Running Club for 2019. Distances have been tallied over the course of 3 terms. Congratulations to Lily in Year 4 who ran a staggering distance of 62km. A big thank you to those who attended the club and made for an enjoyable start to the day.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students and parents for the support and friendship that has been given to me over the past 8 years here at OLA. The regular offers of help at Carnivals and events really is appreciated. While I move on to new pastures in Adelaide, I will remember my time fondly here and wish the OLA community all the best for 2020 and beyond.
