RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Primary

Pre-Primary were so lucky to have Nurse Claire visit us on Tuesday from the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital. She brought her friend, Doll Katie, and we learnt all about what might happen if we go to hospital. We tried to hop with crutches, became doctors and nurses, helped patients, had our blood pressure taken and many more important activities to help us understand the experiences we may have. We remembered the number 000 if we need to ring an ambulance in an emergency at home, and know we need to be able to tell our address to the operator.

All of the children listened very respectfully to Nurse Claire and were very considerate and careful of each other when treating their ‘patients’. What a lot of exciting information and experiences we had to share with our families that night!

Year 2

Oh wow, it is Term 4 already and the Year 2s have been busy learning about Food, Fibre and Production in the learning area of Design and Technologies. We have demonstrated our school values of respect and integrity during our project of creating a farm. We needed to work collaboratively with our peers to research our chosen farms and then share the materials needed to create a model of our farm. This project allowed the students to demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving skills. We are looking forward to presenting our farms to the class and sharing the amazing things we have learnt with our parents.

In Religion, we have been learning about God’s creations and how we can care and show the value of respect towards them. We have learnt that we can look after nature by watering plants, picking up rubbish and not damaging the environment. It has been interesting learning about all of God’s wonderful creations.

Year 4

The hard-working students of Year 4 have had a busy start to the final term of the year! We have demonstrated the school value of excellence during our novel study reading groups. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading our novels in small groups and applying our understanding to the chapter comprehension activities.

In Religion, we have learnt about the value of compassion as we have looked at how Jesus carried out the Word of God and spread God’s message. We have discovered the different parts of the Bible and how they help us to learn how to live as Jesus did. We have made an effort to follow in His footsteps and apply this to our world today by showing care and compassion for all of God’s creation.

Year 6

WOW! Term 4 and we realise we are only weeks away from finishing up at OLA. We continue to learn new concepts in all subject areas. In Maths, we have been learning percentages and square numbers and, in English, we have been looking at narratives. We have been striving for excellence in everything we do and have produced some amazing work that is of a high standard.

6M had a busy few weeks preparing and presenting their assembly item, a continuation of 6G’s ‘Oscar Awards’ earlier in the year. Thanks to Miss Figueira for her ideas and directing, we had fun and completed our last assembly on a high. We demonstrated compassion, as we shared ideas and helped one another as we prepared for this event.

We now prepare for Graduation over the coming weeks and the many laughs and tears it will bring.
