RICE is Alive at OLA!

Kindergarten M

In Kindy we are settling in and learning to learn together. Learning about what respect means has helped us to understand how to use our equipment, share with our friends and learn safety. We are learning how to care and respect our equipment, be kind and gentle in play as we respect our friends and how to respect each other’s space as we share our classroom and outdoors together.

Shrove Tuesday was a wonderful opportunity of our children to show their respect for each other as we made pancakes, taking turns and using our manners as we enjoyed this special day together.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary M

In PPM we have been deepening our understanding of how we can be a good friend to others, and strategies we can use if someone is not being kind to us. We have talked about how we show respect to our friends, what it looks and making good choices to keep everyone safe and happy. We have used puppets to explore social situations so we can find ways to work out problems with our friends in a respectful way.

All of our children showed beautiful manners, patience and respect when we made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, with many children praising Mrs Whittaker for her wonderful cooking skills!

Mrs Michelle Symmons and Mrs Ella Galipo

Year 1M

We have learnt new routines in our Year 1 classroom. We look forward to starting our day talking to God with our morning prayer. Our prayer leader leads us respectfully in the prayer as we pray for ourselves, others and our world. On Shrove Tuesday we made pancakes with our parents. The children showed respect in using their manners and waiting their turn. They were lucky enough to have a second helping!

This week we learnt how we can show respect at school and we made a respect headband. The children wrote two ways that they can show respect at school and they wore them proudly, sharing their message!

Year 2M

In Year 2M, we just love doing art. We have learnt different techniques in our art, like blending colours with oil pastels and blending paint to make abstract art. When our art goes on display, we have noticed how different each piece of art is and we discussed how every person is an artist and have their own way of seeing the world. When learning about how to show the value of respect, we have talked about how important it is when we make comments about other people’s art. We have decided to look for something we like about someone’s art and make a positive comment about it. We respect that all art is valued and is a person’s creativity at work.

Mrs Simone Taylor

Year 3M

Respect has been a big focus for us in 3M over the past few weeks. While we have been doing lots of learning, we have also been able to demonstrate the school value of respect. We show respect to our teachers and classmates by treating everyone the way we would like to be treated. We show respect to our belongings by taking care of them and show respect to the equipment in the classroom by treating them like gold, especially the iPads and Chromebooks (which has been very exciting).

Last week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making delicious pancakes (Thank you to our parent helpers!). Whilst the children helped the parents, they showed lots of appreciation and respect to the helpers as they used their manners and followed instructions. This was followed by a discussion about the importance of Lent and giving as a sign of compassion and respect for those in need.

Year 4M

We have had a very busy start to Term 1 in 4M. This term we are focusing on respect, one of our RICE Values. Students are being recognised for showing respect in the classroom and in the playground, and the leaves on our Values Tree are filling up!

Our Swimming Carnival was a very exciting way to start Week 4, students participated in events throughout the day and showed their support for their team members all day!

Last week we celebrated the traditional ‘Shrove Tuesday’ and all students enjoyed eating pancakes in class. Shrove Tuesday is the day before the start of Lent, on Ash Wednesday.

Mrs Maree Musca

Year 5M

We have been looking at the value of respect this term and have completed a few activities around it. While working together in group situations, we have shown respect to each other by listening to what the other person has to say and taking their ideas into consideration. We show respect to our classmates and teachers on a daily basis by ensuring that they are valued in the classroom and playground too! We have created posters for our classroom to show what respect means to us and how there are different ways of showing respect to ourselves and other people.

Miss Stephanie Figueira

Year 6M

We have embraced our role as Student Leaders. Ms Knight and Mr Mac are very proud of the respect we are showing our peers and other school members during our day and in particular at the sports carnival. We also really enjoyed co-ordinating the Caritas – Project Compassion Launch.

We even created RICE value iMovies to role model our school values and shared them on Seesaw. It’s just another way to make sure everyone knows how to demonstrate our RICE values at OLA.

Excitement soared when our leaver’s shirts arrived and it was great to wear them at our ‘Just’ Leadership incursion with Mr Leber today.

In Art, we have been studying Street Art. We’ve looked at tagging and created our own tags. It is great to show respect and compliment our friends attempts and achievements. We are currently working together to create a collaborative Interactive Street Art piece for the Fete. #whatmakesyourheartsoaratOLA! Make sure you come along and take a photo!
