RICE is Alive at OLA!

Kindergarten M

We have already had a very busy term. Learning about space through fun, hands on experiences. We are learning about narratives and based our own stories on the fantastic book, How to Catch a Star, by Oliver Jeffers. This was a challenging process but we showed our perseverance as we strived for excellence to do our best. We are also having a go at writing using all our knowledge about sounds as we work towards excellence.

We have enjoyed going to dance each week and learning new steps for our routine. We need to work together in our dance and know that at Kindy, by working hard and helping each other we can learn new skills to show excellence.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary M

Pre-Primary M have been so lucky to share in many special occasions over the last few weeks. We tried our best at the Athletics Carnival and loved dressing up for Book Week, where we met a real author, Cristy Burne! We had a visit from the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital, with Doll Charlize, and we learnt all about what might happen if we go to hospital. We tried to hop with crutches, became doctors and nurses, helped patients and even had our blood pressure taken.

We also took part in the NAIDOC celebrations, with a special smoking ceremony and Mass, a shared Aboriginal flag photo and we joined classes for activities to promote harmony and community in our school. We have been exploring the value of excellence and how this looks for us in Pre-Primary. We have tried to demonstrate excellence in our behaviour, by listening to our friends and teachers and making good choices. We have tried to show excellence in our work and play, by trying our best in everything we do. Our RICE tree is becoming filled with leaves showing how amazing our children are at showing love and care for themselves and others.

Mrs Michelle Symmons and Miss Ariana Rosso

Year 1M

It is unbelievable that we are halfway through Term 4. We are working so hard to aspire to this term’s RICE value which is excellence.  This means always trying to achieve our personal best. We are writing persuasive texts about the ‘Best Season’ and our published work is excellent! In Mathematics, we have learnt about money and we are all excellent at recognising and ordering the Australian coins from the least value to the greatest value.

We had a great time performing in the Kaboom Music Project. We participated in the NAIDOC Week activities and we enjoyed chatting to our Year 4M buddies while working on our activity. Finally, we are striving to show excellence in our Dance lessons as we refine our dance moves to showcase at the Christmas Concert!

Mrs Tina Ravi

Year 2M

In 2M, we have been focussing on the school value of excellence. We have discussed what we need to do to achieve our dreams and goals, and have come up with a plan:

  1. Set your goal.
  2. Work on a plan.
  3. Practise, practise, practise!
  4. Never give up, even if you don’t get things right the first time.
  5. Celebrate your success.

We have prepared our upcoming assembly item around this theme and can’t wait to show everyone.

Speaking of dreams, in Art, we have been busy building dream catchers. It was tricky work to thread the wool across the paper plate, and then even trickier to tie so many little knots in the wool. However, we persevered and we love the outcome. Now to catch more dreams for us to follow.

Mrs Simone Taylor

Year 3M

What a busy but excellent first five weeks we have had in Term 4 of Year 3. We have been very busy with outside of the classroom activities like our Dance Lessons, the Athletics Carnival, Cristy Burne visit, Book Week Parade, STEM Excursion to Servite College, Italian Assembly, Kaboom Music Project, Interschool Athletics and NAIDOC Celebrations, just to name a few. At each of these events, the Year 3M students demonstrated our RICE Value of excellence as they tried their best and gave everything their all.

As if we thought the term wasn’t busy enough, we also prepared for and received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time last Thursday night. In the lead up to it, we had lots of discussion about making good choices, being truly sorry for what we have done wrong and trying our hardest to try not to do the same thing again. We are very proud of the Year 3M students for the excellence they demonstrated in both the lead up to the night and on the night to make it a reverent celebration that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Miss Tiana Versace

Year 4M

4M has had a fun filled Term 4 so far! Week One was the beginning of our Dance lessons with Make a Move Performance Program. We are halfway through our lessons, and showing our RICE value of excellence, as we prepare for our Christmas Concert. Mr Martin has continued umpiring the Year 4 soccer at Recess and Lunch, we are all learning so much! On Monday we participated in the Kaboom Music Incursion, Year 4 played the drums in the Pre-Primary playground. Last week we had our NAIDOC Week celebrations, we were very lucky to have Dr Nathan Leber as our guest speaker. We then met with our Buddies from Year 1 and enjoyed completing NAIDOC activities. In class we had a visit from Mr Martin during spelling, students showed their excellence in being able to explain their focus sounds in their words.

Mrs Maree Musca

Year 5M

What a busy term it has been, filled with exciting and eventful activities! We can’t believe we are on our way to being the leaders of the school! We have been busy completing all class activities to a high standard and have shown excellence in doing so.

On Friday, we showed responsibility and flexibility while working with our Year 2 buddies for NAIDOC celebrations. We completed some colouring activities that represented different Australian animals and landscapes.

With the end of the year drawing to an end, we are showing excellence in our tests, class tasks and our speeches. As we prepare for our leadership speeches, we are supporting each other and are aware, that if we don’t receive a badge, we are all leaders and will show all RICE values of OLA in our day to day lives.

Miss Stephanie Figueira

Year 6M

WOW! We can’t believe 2020 is almost over and in just a few weeks we will graduate from OLA. But just because school is nearly over, doesn’t mean our learning has finished. Ms Knight is keeping us very busy and always expecting excellence in everything we do and are. As usual Art and Design and Tech are a big focus in our class. We are so pleased with our Koi Fish drawings and our papier mâché cows in Art. We are also very excited to be trying out our ‘wind powered’ cars in Technology (Wonder who will have the fastest car?).  But that’s not all, we are also getting ready for Graduation and the Christmas Concert. We’ve been choreographing and practising our dance and learning new songs to sing at both events. There is just so much going on in Year 6, we may need to postpone the holidays in order to get it all done.
