RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Kindy

Last week in Pre-Kindy, we had a special day with our favourite teddies. We sang songs and played games with our teddies. We made bear ears and went on a bear hunt. We made honey joys and pikelets and enjoyed sharing them at a teddy bear’s picnic. It was such a fun day!

Integrity is all about doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. At this age, we teach children to make good choices and be kind to one another.

Mrs Taylor

Kindy

In Kindy, we have continued to learn about insects. This week, we are learning about nature’s wonderful little provider – the humble bee. Did you know that a bee visits two million flowers to make one jar of honey? Wow! They sure are busy little bees. We have also been very busy doing a lot of bee activities and learning along the way.

Children are not born with integrity. Children learn the behaviours we associate with integrity, such as honesty and respect, by watching adult role models and guidance at first hand experiences. We play a lot of games in Kindy, which not only teaches us skills and concepts, but it teaches children to take turns, learn how to lose or win and how to play fairly. We talk about why cheating in games isn’t fair and why it is not acceptable. This practise helps children to develop a moral compass to do what is right because it simply is the right thing to do.

Year 1

In Year One, we have been working hard in Mathematics and learning so much about length and capacity. We have explored how to compare and order objects. We had so much fun working outside our classrooms! We have used teddies, blocks, sand, popsticks, straws and items from our classroom to explore these measurement concepts.

In Religion, we have talked about how we care for ourselves and others. We role played scenarios where we could demonstrate compassion for others, for example, when they are hurt, lonely or sad.

We are preparing for our End of Term Three Mass which we will lead. We hope that parents will join us on Wednesday 25 September at 9.00am.

Year 3

The Year Three students display the value of excellence in the way they display their work. They have commenced work on the Reconciliation unit for Religion and we have discussed how our conscience helps us to make good decisions. It is wonderful to see how well students set out their written responses and take pride in the way they illustrate their work.

In Maths, students have been looking at different angles and can confidently identify a right angle. Students have noticed that there are so many right angles in the classroom. What great angle detective work!

Well done Year Threes!

Year 5

WOW, you should have seen us last week. We were amazing at Performing Arts last Thursday. The Year 5s performed an excerpt from Oliver. Ms Knight and Mr Mc were so very proud of our efforts in singing, dancing and acting. If you weren’t there to see it, you sure missed out! Stars in the Making!

In Religion we are looking at the qualities of a good leader. Being Year 5s we acknowledge that we will be the leaders of OLA next year and, as such, we need to work on our leadership skills. Some of our top qualities we look for in a leader include: Respect, Integrity, Courage, Compassion, Loyalty, Trustworthiness, Patience, Bravery, Acceptance and Tolerance. We recognise that sometimes it is hard to show these qualities, especially when it comes to confronting our friends, but we are working on it. Ms Knight and Mr Mc have complete faith in us, that we will be excellent leaders next year, leading with inspiration, respect and integrity.
