RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Kindy

What an amazing year we have had in Pre-Kindy! We left our mum and dad for the first time to begin ‘big school’. Friends have been made and we have learnt how to share, cooperate and play with each other. Playdough, painting, playing, cooking, listening to stories, dressing up and making mud pies are just a few favourites from our year. We are sad and can’t believe that the year is over, but we have made many great memories, learnt lots and are very lucky to have spent a wonderful year together in Pre-Kindy.

And that’s a wrap!

2020 will be a year to remember. It was a year of ups and downs and many uncertainties. But the one thing that we can be certain about, is that Kindy 2020 was the absolute best! We made new friends, we learnt new songs, we danced, we played, we read, we laughed…WE HAD FUN!

We learnt lots about the world around us this year. We also learnt how we could keep the RICE values alive in our classroom. Respect, integrity, compassion and excellence were a part of our day, every day. We made some very special memories that we will hold onto as the years go by.

Saying goodbye to such a special year is always hard, but how lucky we are to have spent it together in Kindy G!

Mrs Elaine Fruvall

Kindergarten M

This year has been a unique year and a special one for all of us in Kindy M. We met so many new friends and learnt so much about ourselves and our world. We consistently demonstrated our school values of respect, integrity, compassion and excellence each day, through our play and work. We will be taking all these wonderful memories we have made this year as we start our new adventures next year in the ‘big school’. We each have our own talents and strengths and have all contributed to making our class and school a place of wonder, curiosity and a fun, safe space to learn and grow.

Thank you to all our amazing Kindy M families for your support this year and for sharing this special year with us.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary G

What an exciting term we have had in PPG! We performed our very first assembly and shared some songs about fairy tales. We went on an excursion to Cicerello’s in Fremantle where we learnt about sea creatures and beach combing. We enjoyed touching the sea creatures, eating fish and chips for lunch and playing at the park. We had a hospital incursion where we learnt about what may happen on a visit to the hospital and we had an incursion about road safety where we learnt about crossing the road safely. We loved participating in ‘Wheels Day’ where we got to bring our bikes and scooters to school, and we even got to test out our skills in a wheelchair. We had fun participating in dancing lessons each week and we performed our ‘Elfie Selfie’ dance at the Christmas Concert. We have had lots of fun in Pre-Primary this year, and we are looking forward to Year One!

Miss Sabrina Saraceni

Pre-Primary M

The Pre-Primary children were so excited to take a look in their new Year One classrooms this week and we have been singing, crafting, playing, dancing and cleaning our way through the last few days of Pre-Primary. In Religious Education, we have been talking about Advent and preparing for Christmas and these are some of the things we said we could do for others during this special time:

“Be nice to our family and share.” – Natalia

“Care for other people and help each other.” – Chloe

“Saying prayers and opening presents together.” – Isabella

“Having respect and manners.” – Ceanna

“Being kind to others and preparing in Advent.” – Jude

What a wonderful year full of generous smiles and kind hearts from all of our little ones.

Year 1M

It is unbelievable that we are at the end of Term 4. We have worked so hard to aspire to this term’s RICE value which is excellence and we all have tried our best! We are writing our final persuasive text to Santa and we hope he will enjoy reading them!

We had so much fun performing our dance and Christmas song. We had two incursions last week. The first from the RAC Little Legends and we learnt more about road safety. The second incursion was presented by Scitech called the ‘Chemical – Mix and Make Show’ where we explored what happens when we combine different things.

We wish all our families and friends a very happy Christmas and a wonderful 2021.

Mrs Tina Ravi

Year 2G

It is our last week as Year Two students, we have had an amazing final term filled with so many fun and exciting memories. In Religion, we have been learning about the Christmas Story and the Birth of Jesus Christ. We then created a piece of artwork dedicated to the nativity scene, showing Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus together in the stable with the Star of Bethlehem shining bright above them. This art piece had challenges and we needed to show excellence by persisting and not giving up when something did not work.

In writing, we have been learning about poetry and how to use rhyming words to make the poems flow and more interesting. We loved creating poems about ourselves and sharing them with our peers. When the poem was finished, we created a Pic-Collage and then used the video program Clips to bring our poem to life. We enjoyed sharing our wonderful poems with our parents on Seesaw.

Miss Jade Rotondo

Year 2M

We have come to the end of an awesome year in Year 2.  We have been busy with Christmas activities lately, preparing ourselves for the season of Advent. For Art, we created a beautiful picture of the nativity scene, using a variety of artistic techniques. First the students painted a background, followed by the foreground. They then used different shades of blue and white to paint the light shining down from the special star, then painted on a star and stars. Finally, they cut out the character pieces and drew a stable. The students enjoyed this process, although they had to show persistence to do their best. We have been discussing the ways we can show the value of excellence in everything we do, and how we can support others in our class to achieve our goals.

During Religion, we created a Jesse Tree. The students were given materials to create their own tree. They were then given pictures of different Bible stories to symbolise the true meaning of Christ and the stories we share about God.

We are so sad that our year has come to an end, however, we are really excited about Year 3!

Mrs Simone Taylor

Year 3G

Way to go Year 3G. We have had an awesome final term together. This term has been particularly busy with lots of fun activities and events. We had a visit from the Malaga Fire Brigade which was amazing. We learnt about what to do in an emergency fire situation and how to put out common fires around the house. The best part was when we explored the fire truck and got to spray water from a very powerful hose.

We have worked very hard during our dance lesson times on Monday to perfect our dance for the Christmas concert. We danced to, Shake Baby Shake, and loved showing off our dance moves. Afterwards, we sang, The Aussie 12 Days of Christmas, song with Year 3M and it is safe to say that the lyrics are still stuck in our heads! Now we are looking forward to our Water Fun Day with our Subway lunch on Wednesday. What a way to finish off the term and the year.

Mrs Julie Pilatti and Mrs Anella Tollis

Year 3M

We can’t believe it’s the end of the year already! We have been very busy over the last few weeks of term and this has made them fly by. The Christmas concert last week was a great success with 3M performing, Christmas Party Tonight, and singing, The 12 days of Aussie Christmas, with 3G. Each and every student demonstrated our school value of excellence throughout every dance lesson this term in preparation for the concert, and this was reflected in the excellent items performed on the night. The students should all be proud of their efforts.

We were lucky enough to have the firefighters from Malaga Fire Station visit us for an incursion about fire safety. We learnt about the role of a firefighter, how to prevent or stop a fire emergency from happening and how to respond to a beeping smoke alarm. We also got to test out spraying the water and look at all of the tools and gadgets they have in their fire truck.

Miss Tiana Versace

Year 4G

Can this really be the end of 2020? What an amazing year, on so many different levels! We have grown and developed so much over this year, and as a class group we are very proud of ourselves. We have helped each other to focus on our school’s values, we know what respect, integrity, compassion and excellence look like, sound like and feel like in our fabulous 4G class. This term, we have focused on excellence, and we certainly saw that in our incursion with ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’ last week. The chance to use a wheelchair made us respect and feel compassion for those who must always use a wheelchair. It gave us a different point of view. We also acknowledge the integrity that comes from those who make the wheelchairs and volunteer their time to do this! A wonderful group of people.

Best wishes to all for Christmas and New Year, thank you for your incredible and much appreciated support. Enjoy your ‘down time’ and take time to care for yourselves and your lovely families. I look forward to seeing you again in 2021!

Mrs Dianne Scoble

Year 4M

Wow! It’s hard to believe that our school year of 2020 is nearly over. It’s been wonderful to witness all students achieve so much and enjoy the company of their peers. Although 2020 will be a year that we will all remember, 4M has a long list of special events that will keep Year 4 as a special memory.

Last week our school enjoyed a fun-filled Wheels Day. Students arrived in free dress and with lots of energy. Some riding their bike and others a scooter, skateboard or roller-skates. An obstacle course was set up for students to ride their ‘wheels’ during recess and lunch breaks – so much fun! With our visitors from Wheelchairs for Kids, each year level was allocated time to experience using a wheelchair, while wearing their bright yellow Wheelchairs for Kids caps.

Thank you for your support throughout the year, and I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.

Mrs Maree Musca

Year 5G

WOW!!! What an exciting and unusual year we have had in Year 5G. We met our teachers Mr D and Miss Figueira at the commencement of Term 1, only to lose Mr D for a time. With his return and Miss Figueira to teach and guide us we have had many enjoyable teaching and social experiences, more as a family rather than a class of students.

The past term has seen us complete much in all areas of classroom expectations, as we prepare for Year 6. The highlight would definitely have been the opportunity to put our case forward to be future school leaders. We presented a speech to our peers and teachers, detailing our feelings, experiences and thoughts which would assist our leadership potential.

We’re glad to say students with a true OLA spirit were elected to their corresponding roles as our future leaders.

The teachers have also given us the opportunity to select the design and colour of our leaver’s shirts for 2021. We will be proud to wear the shirts to distinguish us as the leadership cohort of OLA in 2021.

Thank you, Mr ‘Grumpy’ De Pietro

Mr Bruno De Pietro

Year 5M

2020 will be a year we will always remember for the COVID working from home experience. We were treated like young adults throughout the year, as our teachers prepared us for the expectations of Year 6. They taught us to be independent and Miss Figueira constantly guided us to reach our full potential with the skills we possessed and extend ourselves when we could.

The past term was also another growing up experience, with many of us attempting to convince our peers why we should be counted as the leaders of OLA in 2021. We presented our thoughts and ideals to our peers and teachers and were rewarded with the selection of excellent candidates to lead us forward in Year 6.

We thank Miss Figueira and Mr De Pietro and all our specialist teachers for the time and effort they have given us this past year.

Miss Stephanie Figueira

Year 6G

2020 has turned out to be a fantastic year and one we certainly will always remember. We still managed to fit everything in, despite the best efforts of COVID. We were very lucky that we got to go on camp and the memories will live with us forever. The past two years have flown by and it has been a privilege to see how much the students have grown academically, socially and spiritually. The children are more than ready for the challenges of high school, and I wish each and every one of them all the success for the next stage of their learning journey.

To all the parents, I would like to say thank you so much for all your support over the past couple of years, and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
