School Board Update – Term 3

This Term, the Board’s focus was primarily on reviewing the current OLA Strategic Plan 2019 -2021 for the purposes of:

  1. Reviewing the activities and milestones against the school’s 10 strategies to ensure they are being implemented; and
  2. Ensuring the targets used to measure the school’s progress towards its achievements are on track for 2021.

I am pleased to say that OLA has implemented the majority of its activities well ahead of 2021, and in doing so this has allowed the Board and staff members to commence the process of investigating additional opportunities and activities that align with the school’s priorities and goals. The Board also looks forward to the feedback that will be received from the staff, parents and students from the NSI School Climate Survey to further inform new strategies for consideration. I encourage all community members to take the time to fill in the survey ahead of the closing date, Friday 18 October 2019. Hard copies are also available from the OLA Administration Office.

Another achievement of the Board this term was the endorsement of the new OLA Uniform. The samples produced by Nell Gray were on display in early August and received an overwhelmingly positive response from parents, staff and students. The school will be proceeding with the designs presented and we look forward to seeing the uniforms for sale later this year and early next year. Further information will be provided in Term 4, however general information is available in our FAQ information sheet.

The Board also congratulates Velma Erskine on her appointment as Principal at St John’s School in Scarborough for 2020. Velma has been an outstanding Assistant Principal with OLA since January 2018 and the Board wishes her well for the future.

Finally, I would like to invite all OLA community members to the 2019 OLA Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 19 November 2019. If you wish to nominate for a position on the School Board, please complete this 2020 Board Nomination Form and return it via email to admin@ola.wa.edu.au by Friday 1 November 2019. An outline of the duties of Board Members is available here.

The Board’s attention in Term 4 will be in identifying the necessary planning required in 2020 to continue to provide contemporary facilities and resources to meet the needs of students as well as ensuring the school’s initiatives are funded sustainably.
