Leadership Message – Issue Two

Dear Parents

Ash Wednesday

All families are invited to our Ash Wednesday Celebration next Wednesday 22 February commencing at 9.00 am in the OLA Parish Church. All students in Pre-Primary to Year 6 will be attending the celebration. The Kindergarten students will be receiving the ashes in their classrooms straight after mass.

Sacrament Commitment Masses

Those students receiving a sacrament in 2023 are required to attend one of the sacrament masses listed on the attached flyer sent home recently. Please refer to the attached flyer for more information.

WA Library Officer of the Year Award

Congratulations to Mrs Claire Dale who has been nominated for the WA Library Officer of the Year Award. Clare will now be a part of the selection process and will find out in the future if she has won the award. We hope her nomination is successful! Congratulations, Claire and we wish you all the best during the process.

OLA Bubs at Play

The OLA Bubs at Play, an initiative that commenced a few years ago, has commenced operating in 2023 out of the Kindergarten room every Friday. If you have younger children and would like to attend, please read the attached flyer. Outside families are also welcome to attend.

Induction/Commitment Mass for New Staff, Year 6 Students, OLA School Advisory Council and P&F Executive

Last Friday the Year 6 students, School Advisory Council and the P&F Members made a commitment to the community to serve this great school in 2023. As I mentioned to those who were present, we were in isolation due to Covid restrictions and couldn’t come together to celebrate the occasion. The Year 6 students were issued with their leader’s badges and have now been placed in a ministry group which will be rotated each term. The Ministry groups are:

  1. Events – Ms Versace and Mr McIntyre
  2. Wellness – Ms Versace and Mr McIntyre
  3. Christian – Mrs Tollis
  4. Sport – Mr McDonald

Congratulations to all our Year 6 Leaders for 2023 and to those parents who have volunteered to support the school on the SAC & P&F Teams.

SchoolStream

As communicated previously, communication from OLA will begin to occur through the SchoolSteam app, Parents are asked to download and sign into the SchoolStream app. Instructions are included on the attached flyer and as the year progresses, weekly updates, excursion permission notes, general notices and absentee forms will be communicated through the app. Eventually, there will not be a school newsletter and all correspondence and notices will be via the OLA School App. The school app will streamline all forms of communication to the families within our community.

Welcome Back Family Night – Movie Night

Scheduled for this Friday night. Looking forward to seeing you all at the movie night on our new lawn. (5.30 – 8.00 pm). The BYO picnic movie night (Tom and Jerry Movie) promises to be an exciting evening for all families with areas set out for rugs and other areas for deck chairs. Popcorn, slushies, ice creams and drinks will be sold at the canteen on the night (cash only). With many families attending the event, NO ball games will be permitted on the night.

Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition, e.g. anaphylaxis or asthma, please complete the required paperwork that is available from the School Office. All medications need to be left at the School Office with your child’s completed paperwork. Students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Pre-Primary will have medications stored in the classroom, however, the School Office will still need to be notified of your child’s medical condition.

Medication

If your child requires medication at school, such as Ventolin, etc, can you please ensure we receive the medication ASAP? Please pass the items on to Jane Sloss, at the front office, who will place the medication in your children’s medical boxes.

Dianella Library Carpark

We continue to be contacted by both the Library staff and City of Stirling requesting that our parents do not park allocated for the Dianella Library staff as this area (even when spots are vacant) is allocated purely for library employees.

Thank you.
