Prayer
Lord God,
At the beginning of this new term teach us to be your hands and feet where we are,
At the beginning of this new term teach us to love as you love us
At the beginning of this new term teach us to pray for those in need
So that You are honoured and glorified.
Amen

Spelling Mastery
This week we commenced the Spelling Mastery program. There has been an excited buzz around the school amongst staff and students now that this initiative is underway. Students completed an orientation session with their instructor on Monday and then completed two lessons. Here are some comments from the students about the program:
“I feel good about it. I feel like it helps me a lot with my spelling. It gives me lots of words to memorise and get better at. It gives me lots of support in what I need to do.”
Jessica Year 3
“I’m liking it. It’s helping me learn my words. I like when we write in the book and do the activities.”
FJ Year 3
“I like that we go into different classrooms and that the groups are small because instead of a lot of people that you know you get to know other people. The spelling activities are good. They’re pretty easy actually. It’s more fun than normal spelling.”
Ruby-Rose Year 4
It’s really enjoyable. You get to have fun whilst learning. You repeat a lot of words so that you get to know them much better.
Alex Year 6
Mother’s Day Breakfast and Mass
Calling all mums, grandmas, aunties and mother figures! Please join us for breakfast on Friday 10 May from 7.30am followed by Mass at 9.00am to celebrate Mother’s Day. An invitation designed by some of our Year 4 students is attached below:
Anzac Day Liturgy
Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to have Mr Oliver Lovelle and Mrs Joan Daglish, from the Mount Lawley-Inglewood RSL, join us for our Anzac Day Liturgy. Our Year 6 students led the service and Mr Lovelle spoke to us about how the fighting stopped 100 years ago yet we still have conflict in today’s world. He encouraged the students to look out for their “mates” and to keep Australia a place free from war. He also mentioned that this is the first ANZAC Day that there aren’t any skirmishes that Australia is involved in.
Surf Online Safe Presentations
On Tuesday, our Year 4 and Year 6 students were fortunate enough to have Paul Litherland speak with them about online safety, digital citizenship and cyberbullying. Paul also presented to families on Tuesday night and offered parents in our community sound advice on keeping their children safe online. Thank you to the OLA P&F for coordinating this event.
Paul has shared with us his newsletter it is attached here.
NAPLAN
This term our Year 3 and Year 5 students will be participating in the NAPLAN Online Assessments. A trial of the online system was conducted at the end of last term and was completed successfully by all students. Thank you to the dedicated staff who continue to support our students in their education at OLA.
Uniform Update
The fire sale continues, please see the Uniform Shop section of the newsletter for specials.
OLA Board Game Night
Next Tuesday afternoon, Years 4-6 students and dads are invited to join us in the Library for a board game afternoon between 3.05 – 4.30pm. Please see the attached invitation for more information about the event.

Federal Election
With the Federal elections coming up, CEWA would like to inform and engage school and college communities on issues around government and education, funding, capital development, and priority areas for our Catholic education system. Below are two attachments outlining key information relating to Catholic schools and the election. Also attached is a CEWA brochure outlining the role our system plays in the education of WA children and young people, while providing information on some of CEWA’s key initiatives and guiding principles.
Crowning of Mary and Welcome to Term Two Mass
On Wednesday 1 May we celebrated a very special Mass with the students and community of OLA. The students from the Christian Leadership Ministry lead the readings and the Crowning of Mary. It was a prayerful and reflective Mass made even more beautiful by the participation of the choir.
The entire month of May is given to praising Mary. The church honours with special love, Mary, the Mother of God, who is joined by an inseparable bond to the saving work of her Son, Jesus. During this month we are all encouraged to pray the Rosary and to learn more about Mary.
