Wellness Week Week 8 (13 June-17 June)
In recent times, the wellbeing of adults and children have become increasingly important and the topic of many discussion across all sectors. The past few years, our children have had to adapt to the ever changing conditions in society and at school. To equip students with the tools to look after the wellbeing of themselves and assist with the wellbeing of others, the staff and students of OLA will participate in Wellness Week throughout Week 8.
Wellness takes on many forms and as we aim to educate the ‘whole’ child, the students will be participating in various activities that will benefit their mental wellbeing, physical wellbeing and spiritual wellbeing. The Wellness Week Team together with the OLA P&F Executive have planned a fun filled week that incorporates a variety of activities.
- Monday, 13 June: In class activities
- Tuesday, 14 June: PJ day. Students wear their PJs to school and are very welcome to bring along their dressing gowns or oodies. Please wear sneakers with PJs. A coffee van will also be set up in the school grounds for staff and parents before school from 7.30am for approximately 2 hours. Parents are more than welcome to drop by, grab a coffee and have a chat.
- Wednesday, 15 June: Yoga. All students are to wear their sport uniform as staff and students from Pre-Primary – Year 6 will participate in a yoga session led by a qualified yoga instructor.
- Thursday, 16 June: In class activities
- Friday, 17 June: In class activities
By hosting Wellness Week at OLA, we all feel assured knowing that our children get to experience these various activities to assist them as they journey through their lives. A big thank you to the P&F Executive for covering the cost of the yoga instructor.
Farewell Mrs McAuliffe
It is with sadness that I inform the community that Mrs Mary McAuliffe has resigned from her position as music teacher at OLA. Mary will be farewelled at our end of term mass, on Wednesday 29 June, in the OLA Church. I wish Mary all the best in all her future endeavours and invite all parents to attend the mass.
Bon Voyage (for now)– Long Service Leave for Mrs Mary Barclay
We say farewell, for now, to Mrs Mary Barclay who will be taking long service leave in Weeks 9 & 10 this term and Weeks 1 & 2 in Term 3. Mary will be travelling to Canada where she will be catching up with her family. We wish Mary a safe and restful holiday with her family and look forward to her return in Week 3, Term 3. Mr Greg Goldie will be Mrs Barclay’s replacement during her absence.
Vinnies Winter Appeal
It’s that time of the year when we wake up in the morning and think to ourselves how cold it is so we switch on the heater to warm up the house, as we prepare to have a hot shower and our breakfast. With the thousands of people living outdoors in these cold conditions, without warm shelter and food to eat, I am proud to state OLA have endeavoured to support these people, every year, by supporting the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Thank you to Mrs Barclay, for once again coordinating the event (see attached). Staff will be sending out the attached flyer with their weekly updates next week. Give generously to support those in need of warm items of clothing/blankets and food.

2023 Pre Kindergarten / Kindergarten Enrolments
A reminder to our current families to submit enrolment applications for siblings as soon as possible to secure a place for your child. We now have waiting lists for both year levels and we certainly wouldn’t want our own siblings missing out. Please contact Jane Sloss on 94713000 or email Jane at enrolments@ola.wa.edu.au
James Foley Incursion at OLA
To help us celebrate Love to Read Local Week, author and illustrator James Foley came to OLA to share his talents with us on Tuesday 7 June. He showed us some of his first hilarious illustrations and books that he produced in primary school. The visit was highly entertaining with lots of laughs.
We were inspired to just have a go and not worry about making mistakes or being perfect. James explained the process of writing and illustrating his latest picture book Stellarphant, showing us the drafts and final product.
Lucky OLA students were the first in the country to get a sneak peek at James’ latest project, a series of graphic novels he is currently working on. We can’t wait to get our hands on those! Finally, James amazed us with his incredible illustrating skill, with a live drawing of OLA’s very own unicorn astronaut!
Books by James Foley can be ordered through Paperbird at https://flightbypaperbird.com.au/collections/james-foley Use the code OLASSHIP for free shipping to school, orders will close on Tuesday June 14. All books ordered will be personally signed with an illustration and delivered to students’ classrooms. 10% of sales will be donated to the school to purchase books at Paperbird.
If you would like to see more from James Foley please, check out the upcoming FREE Storytellers Festival in Fremantle on Sunday June 26. Although this is a free event, bookings are essential. LifeLink Launch
The Year 6 students participated in the Primary Schools LifeLink Launch for 2022. They listened to Archbishop Timothy Costelloe, Bishop Don Sproxton and Mr Mark Powell the Director of Catholic Education, talk about what LifeLink is and what we can do to help raise money for the different LifeLink Agencies. The students are now brainstorming ways we can raise money and awareness about LifeLink and the ways the Church helps those people in need. We can’t wait to organise a fundraiser to help achieve LifeLink’s goal of $120 000 for 2022.
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports will go live on Thursday 30 June and have been modified with descriptors included in the core learning areas, but without comments, and a general comment on your child’s progress.
Thank you.
