Leadership Message – Issue Seven

Mother’s Day Celebration

What a wonderful morning it was for all our mothers in our community. I’m glad we made the last-minute decision to proceed with celebration for it was wonderful to see so many of our OLA mums back. We have certainly missed these special events! We hope you all had a wonderful day with your families on Mother’s Day. Thank you to the staff who coordinated the morning tea, at such short notice, and served the mothers present.

Confirmation Retreat Day

Last Tuesday, the Year Six Confirmation Candidates took part in a Confirmation Retreat Day, led by 24/7 School Ministry.  The day was filled with games and teachings to help deepen the students’ understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Year 6 classes were split into small reflective groups, giving them the opportunity to form deeper connections with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and their chosen Saint. The Ministry Leaders made the upcoming mass relatable and understandable for the candidates. They are also looking forward to the parent-child workshop next Thursday and our Confirmation on the 28th May.

Veritas Library Opening

Our students were welcomed to the ‘soft opening’ of the new refurbished Veritas Library this week. They could not wait to try out the new furniture and equipment including a new interactive catalogue. Thank you to the OLA P&F parents for their support with the fundraising and Claire Dale and Luisa Durkin for selecting and coordinating the whole refurbishment. Parents & caregivers are welcome to come and view our new library in the mornings and afternoons. An official opening, with our guest author Cristy Burne, will occur in the coming weeks and all members of the community will be invited to attend the opening. More details of the opening will be advertised to the community in the future. We look forward to seeing you soon!

COVID-19 Update

OLA has now received the WA Government supply of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs). Commencing next week (Monday 16 May), before and after school, we will be distributing the RATs to all families outside the Administration Building. As you can all appreciate, we will not be distributing the RATs via the students and request parents collect their allocation via the Leadership Team. These RATs may be used if your children/family members become symptomatic or if they are close household contacts.

Please be mindful that while these RATs are safe for use by children, however they should only be administered under the supervision of an appropriate adult.

Any positive COVID-19 result should be reported on the school’s COVID-19 Self-Reporting Portal and positive COVID-19 RAT results must also be reported on the WA Health RAT Register, as is required by the WA Government.

Term 2 Soccer

As we swing back into ‘normal’ life, Mr Allsop has organised soccer training sessions. As there are limited places available, a Try Booking link will be sent to all families in Years 2, 3 and 4 and the first families to register their children will participate in the program. Please read the attached flyer for more information.

School Faction Swimming Carnival

Unfortunately due to the renovations and various swimming centres, as well as the cold weather, this year’s faction swimming carnival has been cancelled. The governing body, of the Interschool Swimming Carnival, has also decided to cancel this year’s Interschool Swimming carnival. It’s the times we currently live in, however we are returning to a ‘normal’ life and we’re hoping we will not have these restrictions placed upon us in the future.

OLA Winter Uniform

The time has now arrived to change over to school’s winter uniform, however I don’t mind if students choose to wear shorts instead of long trousers/skirts etc. All students are now required to wear the school tie during second and third terms. No ‘Mix and Match’ uniforms are to be worn, however next year is the last year for the old OLA uniform may be worn. In 2024, the old OLA uniform will become obsolete and all students will be required to wear the correct and current OLA uniform. Thank you with your support with the above.

School Photos

As advertised previously, school photos have now been scheduled for Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 June. If you still have the old ‘shoot key’ document, please keep it in a safe place, however if you have lost or thrown yours out, new ‘shoot key’ flyers will be produced prior to the event and will be available from the front office.

School Disco – Friday 17 June

The annual school disco, coordinated by the Year 5 Parents (School tradition) is back on and rescheduled for Friday 17 June (changed from 24 June). The Year 5 teachers will be contacting their parents, in the near future, to coordinate the event, with the Year 5 students selecting the theme for this year’s event. It is so exciting it’s back on and I can’t wait to see the ‘Dance Off’ between the Year 6 Girls and Boys (another school tradition).

Term 2 Calendar on the School Website

Moving forward, until the beginning of Term 3, please refer to school’s website calendar, which is updated daily. An updated OLA Term 3 calendar will be distributed to all community members at the commencement of Term 3.

OLA Playgroup

With restrictions now lifted, the OLA play group will resume this week (every Friday), commencing Friday 13 May, 9.00-10.30am in the Kindy M classroom. Everyone welcome.

2023 Pre Kindergarten / Kindergarten Enrolments

A reminder to our current families to submit enrolment applications for siblings as soon as possible to secure a place for your child. We now have waiting lists for both year levels and we certainly wouldn’t want our own siblings missing out. Please contact Jane Sloss on 94713000 or email Jane at enrolments@ola.wa.edu.au

Dianella Library Carpark

We continue to be contacted by both the Library staff and City of Stirling requesting that our parents do not park allocated for the Dianella Library staff as this area (even when spots are vacant) is allocated purely for library employees. It’s only a matter of time before the Ranger is called and infringement notices are issued.

Thank you.
