BOOK WEEK 2020: Curious Creatures, Wild Minds!

What a fantastic week we have had celebrating our love of books and reading!

One major highlight of the week was meeting author Cristy Burne on Tuesday. Her presentation to our students in PP-Year 5 was filled with humour and energy, as she shared her stories of wild adventures and her passion for science. It was fascinating to hear how her newest book coming out in February 2021 was inspired by her real-life encounter with leeches and platypus in Queensland, be sure to look out for Beneath the Trees next year. Cristy has said that her visit here was wonderful, the students were very well mannered and behaved and she loved the thoughtful questions that were asked. If students would like to connect with Cristy and ask more questions, please visit her website to reach out to her https://cristyburne.com/ask-me-anything/.

The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success. It was fantastic to see so many families come through the library to choose some great books that were on offer. The fair has raised $950 in commission for new books for our library, thank you to all who supported the fair this year.

Our Kindy students have enjoyed their own Costume Parade and a visit from Dianella Librarian Clare to share some songs and stories. Students were very lucky to receive not 1 but 2 Better Beginnings Bags to bring home and enjoy with their families.

Congratulations to the following students who won our Curious Creature Design Competition:

  • Allia KG
  • Alana KG
  • Jasmine 1M
  • Vienna 2G
  • Emma 3G
  • Isla 4M
  • Harleen 5G
  • Francesca 6M

We finished off our Book Week celebrations with an incredible Costume Parade in the beautiful sunshine on Friday. The costumes looked amazing and it was great to see the staff and students getting into the spirit of the event. Thank you to the parents who came along to cheer our students on and for helping create some fantastic costumes.

Until next year, keep reading and sharing stories together!
