Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools
The Performing Arts Festival was established to promote the arts and creativity in Catholic schools, and to offer students an opportunity to showcase their talents to a supportive audience. This year marks the 30th year of the Festival, and on Thursday our student leaders and teacher representatives attended the opening Mass at the Cathedral. Almost 22,000 students will participate this year, with some students travelling 3,000 km to participate, and the Festival will go on for six weeks.
Here at OLA, we have decided that Years 1,3 and 5 will participate in the Festival every year, and this means that all our students will have at least three opportunities to take centre stage during their time at OLA. This year, Years 1 and 3 will participate in the class choir section in Week 6. Year 5 will participate in the school musical section, presenting an excerpt from, Oliver. In addition to the whole-class entries, a number of our students have also entered the solo instrumental sections and our after-school Recorder Club will perform in Week 3. Our students are currently rehearsing their entries, and we are very proud of their dedication and commitment.
Recorder Club
Our senior students were offered the opportunity to participate in an after-school recorder club which is held every Tuesday, commencing at 3.05. A total of 26 students have enrolled and are busy rehearsing their pieces. The students will have their first public performance at the Performing Arts Festival on Friday 9 August, and we wish them the best of luck as they prepare for their first public performance. We look forward to hearing them at a school assembly early in Term 4.
