OLA Story Slam starts this Thursday 1 July

How many stories can you slam throughout July? Students should have now received their Story Slam reading log and sponsorship form, so it’s time to start reading!

You can read a story, listen to an audiobook or ask a parent to read to you, it all counts.

Make sure to record every book you read during July and ask family and friends to sponsor you. We will also be giving away great prizes for top readers and fundraisers across all year groups.

Fundraising to refurbish the Veritas Library

The more money we raise during Story Slam, the more furniture and shelving we will be able to purchase to refresh our library.

Cristy Burne book signing event – Tuesday 13 July

Don’t forget to head to Dymocks Morley on Tuesday 13 July from 11.30am to 12.30pm to meet author Cristy Burne, collect your pre-purchased books signed by Cristy and enjoy a science show.

Happy reading!

Disco wrap-up

The annual OLA Disco is all about bringing our kids together to have some fun, burn some energy and of course dance! And our Sport Disco ’21 didn’t disappoint. Our fairy lighting sparkled and led toward the dance floor, where the atmosphere the kids created was energetic and buzzing. They grooved the night away to DJ Shaun’s awesome line up!

There were wonderful efforts in dressing up with some brilliant outfits from head to toe. (Special mention goes to the Carlton supporter and anyone wearing leg warmers.) Prizes given for best dressed, best dancer, coolest congo dancer and lowest limbo, put smiles on the winners’ faces. Thanks to our Year 5 student volunteers who were kept busy as our judges.

A sparkling and colourful photo backdrop complete with disco balls was literally a highlight. Hopefully the kids spotted their sports hero on the poster and captured some great memories. The Year 6 dance off was as usual a highlight too. Congratulations to the Year 6 girls: You’re now in the OLA Dance Off Hall of Fame.

A special mention to Maria and Anisha in our canteen and the parent volunteers who had some long queues to serve with speed and all done with a smile.

The parents’ chill out room kept everyone warm with coffee, tea and an assortment of sweets and biscuits donated by our Year 5 parents.

The volunteers did a magic job planning, preparing, setting up and being there on the night. We have loads of feedback, so we will hand over to the 2022 team to make next year’s disco fun for all our kids.

Thanks for your support!
