RICE is Alive at OLA!

Kindergarten G

We have loved starting Dance lessons this term and grooving along, and have been told by Miss B we are the best listeners in the school! Showing our excellence, in dancing and listening skills.

We are exploring fairy tales and having lots of fun sharing puppet shows and songs with our friends. We have even built bridges and planted beanstalks to enhance our learning and language skills in Kindy.

Pre-Primary G

What an exciting term it has been in PPG so far! We have been exploring the school’s value of excellence. We have talked about how excellence involves commitment and not giving up. We have been using the value of excellence by working hard each day to practise our assembly item. In Visual Arts, we have spent time creating assembly props that represent sharing kindness and love.

In Term 4, PPG have had to demonstrate excellence by continuing our routine as we settle back into the term with a new teacher.

How can it be Term 4 already! As we prepare the students for Year 2, we have reflected on our favourite subjects and most students agree that Visual Arts and Design and Technologies are the most loved subjects. Last week, we explored line and colour with drawings of ocean creatures. In Design and Technologies, the students planned and created pencil pots and they can’t wait to use them at home.

In Maths, we have demonstrated excellence as we learn about halves. We have been very focused to divide shapes into half, and we are now working on figuring out how to halve numbers. We need to know the meaning of ‘half’ to be able to work out half of a given number. The Year Ones have been working really hard on this topic.

Year 2G

We have had a busy start to Term 4! Week One was the beginning of our Dance lessons with Make a Move Performance Program. Students are enjoying their lessons, and showing our RICE value of excellence, as we prepare for our Christmas Concert.

In class, Year 2 students have been focusing on capacity and volume in Mathematics, and counting vertices, edges and faces of 3D shapes. We are using our persuasive skills in writing, and proudly showing our completed Perspective Drawing in Visual Arts.

It was wonderful to see students having so much fun with their friends and family at our school fete on Sunday. Year 2 students were seen zooming down slides, munching on snow cones, slurping slushies, dancing on stage, bungee jumping and feasting on amazing hot food. Such a wonderful community day.

Year 3G

What an awesome start to the term we have had in Year 3G!

In class, we have been learning about the importance of excellence. We understand that showing excellence isn’t about always getting everything correct, but rather, it’s about putting in our best effort and demonstrating persistence and determination when we can’t do something straight away.

We have been demonstrating excellence in Design and Technologies when we’ve been designing and testing our Lego creations. In Mathematics, we’ve been measuring the mass and capacity of objects and, in English, we’ve been striving for excellence as we’ve been identifying cause and effect in our reading books. We’ve also been focusing on showing excellence when working with our friends, especially when mastering our dance moves in our dancing lessons! We’re excited to finish Year 3 by demonstrating excellence in all that we do!

Mrs Anella Tollis and Mrs Jodie McCarthy

Year 4G

We have been working hard, learning, laughing and looking after each other here in 4G! It’s been a great start to the term.

Dance has been wonderful so far. Each group is involved in the Make A Move Dance classes. Our song for the end of year concert is, Never Say Never, from the Karate Kid movie. The students have been demonstrating excellence as they work together to create a dance. Body, energy, space and time are the key elements. There are a couple of photos of this week’s Dance lesson.

We have been writing persuasive arguments. Excellence has been demonstrated in the way the outline was followed for, ‘Why Smoking Should Be Banned.’ Some great reasons are: protecting the environment, avoiding lung cancer, croaky voices and hospitals.

Many representatives of 4G are looking forward to the Interschool Athletics this Friday. We wish them luck representing OLA and demonstrating all of the RICE values, including excellence.

Year 5G

We cannot believe how quickly Term 4 has come around and our teachers are speaking about Christmas activities and Year 6.

Week One commenced with a realisation we were ending the year and moving on to Year 6, in that we commenced preparations for our leadership speeches. Our goal is to encourage our school peers to vote for us, as future school leaders. Teachers, along with our parents, have helped us write our speeches depicting the many qualities we would bring to our leadership roles throughout next year.

Religion lessons have encouraged us to review and look forward into the future, how we look after one of God’s greatest creation, our Earth. We have discussed how we, at OLA, can help shape and care for our world. Many of us completed posters which share our thoughts and ambitions with our school community.

Please keep us in your prayers as we take on a very challenging and exciting term, demonstrating excellence in all that we do.

Mr Bruno De Pietro

Year 6G

What an excellent start we have had to Term 4! We spent last week at Nanga Bush Camp for our Year 6 Camp. Although the weather wasn’t on our side, we were still able to participate in all of the activities we had planned. Each group was assigned a leader from Adventure Works, who facilitated our activities. We did Flat Water Rafting, Raft Building, Zip-lining, Hiking, Team Water Challenges, Brain Teasers, and participated in a Quiz Night and Talent Show! We demonstrated our school value of excellence, as we gave our all in each activity by including everyone and trying our best to work as a team to achieve our goals.

Despite all of the excitement from camp, we have settled back into school excellently and have continued to ride the rollercoaster that we call Term 4. We have been working hard in the classroom and have been learning about percentages, biographies and koi fish. We also can’t forget about the way we have put on our choreographer hats to prepare for our Christmas Concert during our Dance lessons too. We can’t wait to perform it at the concert for you!
