RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Kindergarten G & M

What a wonderful year we have had so far in Pre-Kindy and a great start to term four. It is wonderful to see what three and four year olds are able to achieve, always striving for our RICE value of excellence in everything we do! This term, we have encouraged our Pre-Kindys to practise their pre-writing and fine motor skills ready for Kindy next year! We have displayed excellence using the collage table independently, wiping our brushes on the glue pot and adding one collage material at a time to create fabulous masterpieces. We have enjoyed cutting many materials to practise our cutting skills, including slimy cooked spaghetti. We loved this fun sensory experience so much! Threading coloured pasta necklaces that we didn’t want to take off was by far our favourite activity this term. The children showed excellence, carefully concentrating to thread pasta one by one on to the string. We have read many stories, sang many songs and had lots of fun learning through our play, we love being in Pre-K G and M!

Mrs Ella Galipo

Kindergarten M

We have already had a very busy term. Learning about fairytales through fun, hands on experiences. We are learning about narratives and are having fun practising retelling stories with our small world explorations. The Gingerbread Man came to our class but he ran away! You may have found our posters around the school asking for help. We know that at Kindy, by working hard and helping each other, we can learn new skills to show excellence.

Our SCITECH incursion was great fun and we loved exploring all the different investigation stations together. We are also having a go at writing, using all our knowledge about sounds as we work towards excellence. This is a challenging process but we are showing our perseverance as we strive for excellence to do our best.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary M

Wow! We’re in Term 4 already! We can’t believe we only have a few more weeks of fun-filled Pre-Primary. This term, we have been exploring the school’s value of excellence and what it can look like in Pre-Primary.

We have been demonstrating the value of excellence by working hard when practising for our assembly and during our Dance lessons. We’ve also shown excellence with our listening skills as we enjoyed our incursion from the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital (AWCHWA). We talked about what might happen if we go to hospital. We tried to walk using crutches, became doctors and nurses, helped patients and even became patients ourselves. It was a lot of fun!

Miss Belinda Mitchell

Year 1M

What an awesome term it has been in 1M so far! We have enjoyed lots of different things like making pencil pots and masks using a variety of materials, making fairy bread, learning about procedure writing and persuasive writing, completing art activities and coding using Scratch Jr. We have had lots of fun participating in Dance lessons, creating our own moves for our end of year concert.

This term, we have been learning about the importance of excellence. We have discussed how we can show excellence by putting in our best effort, trying our hardest and by being persistent when we can’t do something straight away. We have been displaying excellence as we learn about chance and data. We have been very focused to identify the likelihood of particular events occurring and the chance of choosing particular objects from a lucky dip. We have been showing excellence as we prepare for Year Two, trying our hardest to work towards achieving our own personal learning goals.

Miss Sabrina Saraceni

Year 2M

Year 2M have demonstrated excellence in so many ways this term. We have created farms in Design and Technology, completed our perspective artwork, worked in groups to learn some new dance moves for the end of year concert, demonstrated our understanding of fractions, volume and capacity and described the symbols of the Sacrament of Baptism.

We have been working on our technology skills to create a PicCollage, showing how we have all grown and changed. To say they are adorable is an understatement. We have also started learning how to create Keynote presentations and love adding in transitions and animations wherever we can! Year 2M students are without a doubt excellent all-round people who always try their absolute hardest.

Mrs Julie Pilatti

Year 3M

We have had an amazing term and a brilliant year.

Our Dance lessons with Make a Move Performance Program have been met with major enthusiasm by all. We are all enjoying our lessons, and showing our RICE value of excellence, as we prepare for our Christmas Concert. It’ll be a night you won’t want to forget.

In Tech Time, we are very excited to be designing Christmas ornaments, which we will be printing on one of OLA’s two 3D printers. Many of us are loving going to class early on a Wednesday for our Minecraft Club, exclusively for Year 3. Our towers look amazing, and we are looking forward to the next challenge Ms Knight’s going to give us.

It’s scary to think our time in Year 3 is coming to an end, but all our hard work and efforts have paid off, Ms Knight thinks that as we strive for excellence in our behaviour and our class work, we are ready to fly upstairs into Year 4.

Ms Vanessa Knight

Year 4M

We have displayed excellence throughout the term with all the work we have produced inside and outside the classroom. In our weekly Dance lessons, we have been putting in lots of hard work and practice, and we look forward to giving an excellent performance at the end of term. In class, we have demonstrated excellence in our persuasive writing. We have used lots of persuasive arguments about ‘Why Junk Food Should be Banned’ and ‘Why Smoking Should be Banned’. In Religion, we have been learning about the Seven Sacraments, and we have produced very colourful collages that highlight our knowledge.

It’s crazy to think that 2021 is coming to an end. We can certainly say that this year in 4M we have strived for excellence and exceeded our expectations. We will continue to showcase how excellent we are as a class and very much look forward to showing off our dance moves at the end of year Christmas Concert.

Mr Brian McIntyre

Year 5M

Week 5 already, it’s almost too unbelievable to think about! What a flying start we have had, we witness excellence in our weekly Dance sessions, what superstars we are! We are seeing excellence and diligence in our daily work in class. This is evident in our poetry writing, our art work and, especially in our Mathematics work! Our Religious Education focus has been ‘Baptism’, this unit focuses on the care of the world that God has given us. We are the excellent resident experts on this topic! We speak of and do the things that God wants us to in order to take care of our world. We have completed a range of different styles of work demonstrating our knowledge of this. Key to this term, has been the preparation of our leadership speeches in preparation for 2022. Our presentations have been excellence personified, and we are looking forward to further contributing to the life of OLA in 2022!  Stay tuned!

Mrs Dianne Scoble

Year 6M

The weeks have flown by, and we have maintained and displayed excellence in all aspects of our school life. We have been busily learning new concepts in all learning areas.

In Mathematics, we have learnt about percentages and how to find the sale price of items, with and without the use of a calculator!

In English, we have learnt about excellence through the lives of others, as we have researched people and have begun writing our very own biographies!

Our RICE value of excellence has been shining through in the production of our drawings of a Koi fish! We have followed instructions and have created such beautiful pieces of art.

We have 5 weeks to go and we will continue to show how well we show the value of excellence! Not long now, and we will be on our way to high school and leave this beautiful place we called OLA!
