RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Kindergarten G and M

We have been very busy in Pre-Kindy over the last few weeks learning all about Christmas. The children have been exploring the Nativity story and have enjoyed role playing the story through play, within the classroom. We have enjoyed listening to Christmas carols during activity time and getting crafty. We collaged Christmas stockings, made reindeer handprints, a green and red wreath and a beautiful Christmas tree decoration to display in our homes. We have read many Christmas stories too! Our Pre-Kindy Christmas concert was filled with enthusiastic singers and dancers and our families absolutely loved coming to see our wonderful skills. We have also been talking about how it is nice to show compassion and help others at Christmas time, some people don’t have as much as we do. Our families have brought many items to donate to our St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal, and we are very grateful. We have had an amazing year in Pre-K and are so proud of all the achievements our little three and four year olds have accomplished in their first year of schooling. Wishing our OLA families a wonderful Christmas, and we hope you all stay safe over the holiday break.

Mrs Ella Galipo

Kindergarten G

What a busy few weeks for the end of Kindy! We have celebrated 100 days of school and performed so well at our assembly. We loved dancing with Miss B and had a great time at the Christmas concert, things are definitely, “Better When I’m Dancing”!

It is amazing to see our little Kindy children grow so much over the year and now getting ready to move into Pre-Primary next year. We have loved seeing their wonder of the world every day and their kindness and compassion develop towards each other.

Mrs Michelle Symmons

Kindergarten M

It has been a special year for all of us in Kindy M. We met so many new friends and learnt so much about ourselves and our world. We consistently demonstrated our school values of respect, integrity, compassion and excellence each day, through our play and work. We will be taking all these wonderful memories we have made this year as we start our new adventures next year in the ‘big school’. We each have our own talents and strengths and have all contributed to making our class and school a place of wonder, curiosity and a fun, safe space to learn and grow.

Thank you to all our amazing Kindy M families for your support this year and for sharing this fantastic year with us.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary G and Pre-Primary M

Wow, what a wonderful and busy term we have had! We have had so many fun activities, where students were able to all shine in their own way. The Pre-Primarys loved learning their dances for the Christmas Concert and singing Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer to our families, teachers, and other students. Our cheeky classroom elf has created some extra excitement in Pre-Primary this term.

Recently, we had Wheels Day and got to wear free dress and bring our bikes and scooters to school. We even got to ride in a wheelchair, this was a challenge but lots of fun.

RAC visited us last week for a ‘Road Safety’ lesson. We learnt how to be safe pedestrians when on our busy roads, especially during this festive period.

We wish all our wonderful families a safe and happy holiday break with your loved ones and a very Merry Christmas! We look forward to seeing our amazing Pre-Primarys start Year One in 2022, for another fabulous year.

Year 1G and Year 1M

How fast has Term Four gone! We can’t believe that our year with these beautiful Year Ones is coming to an end. This term we had a wonderful excursion at King’s Park, exploring the bushland of Naturescape. It was a very hot day so we were grateful to take off our shoes and paddle in the creek. Last week, we had Wheels Day and we got to ride in a wheelchair, which was harder than we thought! We have also really enjoyed numerous Christmas activities and seeing what the cheeky classroom elves get up to each day. We hope everyone has a wonderful and holy Christmas.

Mrs Simone Taylor and Miss Sabrina Saraceni

Year 2G

What a fantastic year it has been! This term has been particularly busy with lots of fun activities and events. Students worked very hard during our dance lessons on Monday to perfect our dance for the Christmas concert. 2G performed their dance to the song, ‘Move It’, and thoroughly enjoyed their time on stage.

Year 2 loved their Little Genius Science Incursion which was linked to their Chemistry unit in Science. They made oobleck and slime and had a wonderful time!

RAC visited us in 2G for the ‘Around the Roads’ lesson. We gained lots of experience being detectives and spotting all the unsafe activity on the road.

Last week our school enjoyed a fun-filled Wheels Day. Students arrived in free dress and with lots of energy, some riding their bike and others a scooter or roller skates. Students were able to ride their ‘wheels’ during recess and lunch breaks – so much fun! With our visitors from Wheelchairs for Kids, each year level was allocated time to experience using a wheelchair, which was quite a challenge!

Thank you all for your support throughout the year, and I wish all our families and friends a very happy Christmas and a wonderful 2022.

Mrs Maree Musca

Year 2M

We have had a blast in Year 2 over the past few weeks, with lots of fun things happening. As our children have been getting ready to transition to Year 3, we have been reminiscing about all of the things that we have achieved in 2021.

We rocked the dance floor at the End of Year Concert to our song, ‘Under the Sea,’ we enjoyed dressing in casual clothes and having a go on the wheelchairs at the OLA Wheels Day, we had an incursion with the RAC titled ‘Around the Roads’, and we got our hands dirty making oobleck and slime, during our Little Genius Science Incursion.

Our time together in Year 2 has been a delight, and I thank you all for the continuous support, open communication and understanding throughout the year. Enjoy this special time together over the Christmas break, and I wish you all a successful and happy New Year.

Mrs Julie Pilatti

Year 3G and 3M

Just like that, we’re about to farewell yet another fabulous year at OLA! This term has been jam packed with lots of learning, incursions, excursions and school events. A highlight for Year 3 was our excursion to Perth Zoo. Not only did we get to explore the zoo, but we also participated in the zoo class, ‘Creature Seekers’, where we classified animals based on their features. We were also fortunate enough to be invited to attend a STEM challenge at Servite College where we designed, built, and tested a catapult. This task required us to work together to share ideas and it certainly sparked some creativity!

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our fabulous families a wonderful Christmas and a happy and safe year ahead. We’re excited to see our brilliant Year 3 students walking upstairs next year.

Year 4G and Year 4M

What an amazing Term Four we have had! Last week we created our ‘Christmas Around the World’ posters. After researching a country that we were connected to, or one we were interested in, we presented our research poster. It was great to learn about the Christmas traditions of different countries, including food, songs, clothing and information about Father Christmas.

It is an exciting time of the year preparing for the birth of Jesus. We loved making our own Advent wreaths to take home. Our classroom nativity reminds us that Jesus was born in a humble stable, and yet he was the King of Kings!

How great was our dancing? We’ll never forget our preparations for the Christmas Concert and our Year Four songs, ‘Never Say Never’ and ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’! Thanks to all of the parents and relatives who came out and braved the wind and cold to watch the performances.

Wheels Day last week was just amazing. The children were able to wear free dress, bring in bikes, roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, etc. They also had the opportunity to ride on a wheelchair and experience what it feels like to be in one. The money raised all goes towards Wheelchairs for Kids.

We look forward to the last week of school and creating our fabric wreaths. Hopefully when the students look at them, they will remember a fabulous Year Four with Mrs Barclay and Mr McIntyre.

We wish you all a happy, holy and safe Christmas. We have been blessed to share in your child’s education this past year.

Mrs Mary Barclay & Mr Brian McIntyre

Year 5G and Year 5M

What a cracker of a year we have had! We are so proud of what we have done in Year 5 in 2022! We have loved the learning, the stories, the artworks, the creativity, the challenging thinking and more stories! It has truly been a year to remember. We have made new friendships, we have consolidated friendships, and we have renewed friendships. In class, we have shared stories (books and our own stories), created artworks, mastered Mathematics and studied our faith through our Religious Education lessons. We have grown, developed and matured into our independent learning mode, and we are now ready to take on the challenges of Year 6 and being leaders in 2022!

As a group, we are thankful for the many times that our parents have helped us; by attending excursions; being sure we were in the right uniform; sending in the shoes for our fabulous Term 4 Design and Tech project (You should see them Woo Hoo!); helping us with anything and everything! Thanks to our families, you are fantastic and we are blessed to have your incredible support. We have just gone through the collaborative and democratic process of choosing our Leavers’ Shirts for 2022, we are so excited! As we come to a close of the 2021 academic year, we pray that all our families can rejoice in the joy of our Lord’s birth, and use this Advent time as a great preparation for a truly wondrous Christmas.

We look forward to being the leaders of our fabulous school next year!

‘And there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them’
Luke 2:8-9

Year 6G and Year 6M

Where has the time gone in Year 6?! We can’t believe we are in our final week of school at OLA and the weeks have flown by, as we have been so busy! We worked hard to perfect our End of Year Concert routines, and we thought the performances last Tuesday were awesome. Last Thursday, we had our Graduation Mass and on Monday we celebrated our successes and our graduation from primary school with our close family at our Graduation Dinner. We want to thank our teachers and parents who made this possible for us.

We have been having many conversations in class about our transition into high school in 2022. Most of us have had our Orientation Day and had a lot of exciting things to talk about and stories to tell. Feelings of excitement, nervousness and sadness are amongst the many emotions we are experiencing during this time.

We are so grateful for our time at OLA, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. We will miss you all! We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas break!
