RICE is Alive at OLA!

Pre-Kindergarten G & M

We have been very busy little learners in Pre-Kindy. Getting very messy with sensory play, using water, paint, rice and shaving foam has put lots of smiles on our faces. Learning about shapes, colours and counting through song and dance, and listening to many stories. We enjoy looking after our Pre-Kindy fairy and dinosaur garden which is a very popular area in our outdoor environment. We are learning about how to care for our world and God’s wonderful creations, while developing our social skills by sharing the watering cans with our friends. This is also an area for us to feel calm.

This term, we have explored the school value of integrity. We are trying to make good choices in Pre-K, keeping our friends safe and happy. Our focus has been ensuring we keep our friends safe in our classroom by cleaning each area once we are finished playing there. We love learning the OLA way in Pre-K!

Mrs Ella Galipo

Kindergarten M

In Kindy M, we enjoyed inviting our mums to join us for Mother’s Day and spent some time pampering them! We have been exploring owls at Kindy after reading the book, Baby Owls by Martin Waddell. It was a lovely reminder so close to Mother’s Day about how we are cared for by our mums too! We have learnt lots of interesting facts about owls and created owls of our own.

This term, we are focusing on learning about the value of integrity. We listened to the story, Pig the Fibber, by Aaron Blabey and discussed the choices Pig the Pug made, and how he needed to learn to show integrity. We learnt about how integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. In class, we have been working hard to show integrity during our learning and play. We discussed how we can be fair when sharing toys, taking turns in our learning areas and by making good choices with our friends.

Mrs Kristen Dempster

Pre-Primary M

We’ve had a wonderful start to Term 2.  We are reading a different fairy tale each week and are learning how to sequence and retell the stories. We are working so hard in our small group activities independently. We enjoyed decorating a Hansel and Gretel house and looking for the cheeky Gingerbread Man each day.

This term, we are learning about our school value of integrity. We have talked about the different ways we show being honest and truthful in our actions so that we make good choices in the classroom and the playground.  We can also help each other to make good choices, so our games are fair and safe at school.

Ms Belinda Mitchell and Mrs Tina Ravi

Year 1M

What an exciting and busy start to Term 2! We enjoyed a day out at the Perth Zoo, learning about different animals and their habitats. In class, we have been able to use our knowledge of these animals to write reports. We had a Bunnings incursion where we decorated pots and planted flowers for our mums, to celebrate Mother’s Day. This week we are off to the Dianella Public Library for National Simultaneous Storytime, and we are excited to listen to this year’s story, Give me some Space!.

In class, we have been learning about the importance of integrity. We discussed how we can show integrity by making good choices, even when no-one is watching, and how telling the truth and being honest shows integrity. We have listened to a variety of stories and identified how integrity has been shown, and how this makes the characters feel. We have been aiming to show integrity by making good choices, being honest and playing nicely with our friends.

Miss Sabrina Saraceni

Year 2M

We are almost halfway through Term 2 and my goodness, it has been busy! We made fairy bread in class and wrote a procedure about how to make this. It was great fun eating it at the end. We made magical candles for our mums to celebrate Mother’s Day and have recreated Flander’s Fields to remember Anzac Day. This week, we will be participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime, where we will listen to the story, Give me some Space!, at the same time as other children all over Australia.

Integrity has played an important part in our class discussions this term. We are focusing on acting with integrity even when no one is looking. In class, we are trying to do things for others when it is needed, not when we are asked to. In Religion, we have been learning about the Eucharist and the special words that Father Ken uses in every Mass to remember Jesus during The Last Supper.

Mrs Julie Pilatti

Year 3M

We have been so busy in Year 3. NAPLAN is now finished (WOOHOO!) and Ms Knight has been so pleased with all the hard work we have put into being prepared for these tests, but also how well we’ve risen to the challenge of completing them with integrity and excellence.

After every NAPLAN, we’ve managed to fit in some ‘brain breaks’, which have been a lot of fun. We’ve covered the bitumen with chalk flowers, made zentangle animals and played a little dodgeball. We’ve got to have a little fun in our day, don’t we?

The next challenge for us is the Sacrament of Penance. This is happening next Thursday.

In Religion, we have been discussing the need to make good choices and looked at God’s Rules for Living a Good Life. We are making iMovies to demonstrate how we can make good choices and the way we can use these choices in our lives.

We have also started ‘Circle Time’.  This is when we all sit in a circle to discuss concerns and issues in the class.  We look at how we can tackle problems and discuss strategies we can use in the playground when things are not going our way. It also gives us the chance to praise people when they have helped us or stood up for us in the playground.  After all we must all work towards the ‘common good’.

Ms Vanessa Knight

Year 4M

This term has been extremely exciting to say the least, culminating at the weekend with the Year 4 students receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist. Throughout this semester, the students displayed integrity at all times during their practice and preparation for this important event. They all took their roles seriously and they took on board everything they were taught. The students have read a variety of stories from the bible and could discuss how Jesus demonstrated integrity through his actions towards others. On the day the children received the sacrament, they were a credit to themselves, their families and the wider OLA community.

Mr McIntyre

Year 5M

We have been busy in class! Having now completed 2021 NAPLAN assessments, we can now continue with our regular work load. We show integrity by the way we approach our learning and each other in Year 5. We know that integrity is about doing the right thing and choosing the right pathway all the time. As our Year 3 students prepare for the Sacrament of Penance, and as our Year 4 students have just celebrated their First Holy Communion, we include them in our prayers consistently. Integrity is a way of being for us, we hope that we model this to others at all times. We show integrity in the way we spend time together, we listen to each other, and in the playground, we play well. We are very proud of each and every one of us in Year 5!

Mrs Dianne Scoble

Year 6M

This term is flying by and we are flying high, as we prepare ourselves for the events of Term 2. We have worked hard to ensure we are completing our work and showing integrity at all times. Year 6 has been very eventful and this term began with a bang! We resumed work, prepared for a Mass and have been busy preparing for our assembly which will in turn show us demonstrating our RICE values. Throughout the process of us working hard, we have showed integrity to ourselves and others. We have shown responsibility for our learning and have once again proven we can work together to collaborate and work as a team.
