Italian

Pre Primary

In Pre-Primary, we are learning about Italy and some of the Italian landmarks. We read the book, ‘La Macchinetta Rossa’, showing some of those places and we are recreating our own ‘Book of Italy’. We had lots of fun making the cover of our books as we did the Italian flag and we filled it in with scrunched up pieces of crepe paper. We showed the value of excellence in trying really hard to fill in the flag with the right colours and with the crepe paper.

Year 1

In Year 1, we have been learning to talk about ourselves and we created a booklet titled ‘Tutto su di me’ (All about me), drawing and writing about our favourite animals, favourite colours, our homes and our families. We showed the value of excellence when trying our best to refer to our Italian books to help us complete each page.

Year 2

In Year 2, we have been learning about ‘La mia giornata’ (Our day) and the activities we do during the day at school and at home, places we go during the weekdays and the weekends. We are making a booklet by drawing and writing about all the special things we do during our busy days, and we showed respect when helping each other during our learning.

Year 3

In Year 3, we have learnt about our families and how to describe ourselves and the people in our family. We are making a book of our family pictures and writing a description about our mums, dads, siblings and ourselves. We showed the value of excellence, as we did our best to put together everything we learnt this year to describe the people in our family.

Year 4

In Year 4, we have learnt about ‘Il mio mondo’ (My world), learning about what we do during the days, our favourite sports, musical instruments and hobbies. We did a few activities in small groups and had fun doing a little project about our favourite sport personality. We had to write information about him/her and present it to the class, all in Italian, of course! We showed respect when working together and listening to our friends presenting their projects.

Year 5

In Year 5, we have been learning about ‘Il mio quartiere’ (My neighbourhood). We have worked in groups to do a virtual tour of different towns in Italy and compare them to our neighbourhoods in Perth. We are now drawing our own town showing excellence in checking that it is similar to the ones that we saw in our virtual tour. We showed the value of excellence when we described the cities we drew in Italian. 

Year 6

In Year 6, we are pretending to visit Italy, so we have been learning about everything we need for our travel. We made an Italian passport, packed our suitcase with our clothes, researched about all the regions in Italy and what to see and eat there. We also created our own menu based on real restaurants in the regions we researched. We even learnt about some conversations at the Museum and at a Restaurant, so we are prepared to travel around Italy. We showed the value of excellence when working in our small groups to complete all our projects and assignments.
