RICE is Alive at OLA!

Music

The Recorder Club continues to meet after school every Tuesday. It is great to see the 27 girls and boys coming together to enjoy and make music. We have been invited to perform at Dianella Plaza in the lead up to Christmas, so on the afternoon of Tuesday 10 December, our students will play a selection of tunes on their recorders and sing some carols, commencing at 2pm. This is a great opportunity for our students to showcase their excellence in music making.

In Week 5, we had a Music Assembly, which was hosted by the Recorder Club. Many other students had an opportunity to participate in the assembly, and we enjoyed performances from the Year 6 ukulele players, the Year 5 marimba-xylophone group, and the Year 4 bell ringers. We also had a fun item, when 100 students from Years 4 and 5 stood up to play a recorder piece. Then every student present joined in two songs, Sing for Peace and Thank You God. It was a great assembly, where our students had the opportunity to showcase their excellence in music attainment, and the entire school demonstrated their respect for our performers.

This week, the Year 4 students participated in a percussion workshop hosted by Kaboom Percussion. Our students enjoyed playing cajon drums and plastic cups, and mastered some really complex rhythms. Once again, they demonstrated the OLA values of excellence and respect as they engaged in the workshop and worked on the rhythms.

Next Monday we have our Year 6 Graduation Mass, and we invite students from Years 4 and 5, as well as siblings of the graduating students, to join in the choir that will sing at this mass. Please let your teacher or Mrs McAuliffe know if you can support this event.

I would like to take this opportunity to commend Aleksander from Year 5 for demonstrating the school value of compassion on many occasions in the Music Room. Without being asked, Aleks has frequently sorted out the instruments and cleared away after an active music session. This has been a great help to this busy music teacher – thank you, Aleks!

Next year, we have a very exciting percussion project planned for Term 1. Watch this space!!
