Pre-Kindy

In Pre-Kindy, we have been learning about Australia. The children looked at a vase of wattle and learnt about some Australian animals. The children painted a picture of some wattle using brushes and pom poms.

In Pre-Kindy, the children learn to respect other people’s spaces. When we sit together, we are mindful of our bodies and the way we move around. We carefully look with our eyes when we walk around the classroom.

Kindy

This week in Kindy, we started a new Motor Sensory Program to help us develop strong muscles and coordination. We were so excited to walk over to the big school and do all the fun activities.

In Kindy, we talk about being kind and respecting other people’s space. While we were doing our activities at the Motor Sensory Program, we were asked to look out for other people when we moved our bodies in different ways. We have to be careful not to injure ourselves or others.

Year 1

Welcome to Term Three! The children have begun the term with such enthusiasm for learning. Last week, we celebrated NAIDOC Week. We enjoyed listening to the Aboriginal Dreamtime story of Tiddalick the Frog and worked on lots of activities.

This week, we began our dance lessons with Make A Move and the children began to choreograph their dance. There are definitely some great dancers and movers! The children showed our school value of integrity as they took turns, listened to each other and collaborated as they started to put their dance moves together!

Year 3

Compassion was beautifully celebrated during NAIDOC Week and this year’s theme was Voice, Treaty, Truth. To understand Aboriginal beliefs, the Year 3 students enjoyed listening and understanding the meaning behind the Dreamtime story, The Rainbow Serpent. Many questions were asked in a quest to know how Aboriginal people linked these stories with the formation of the land and rivers. As a reading response, the students traced around their hands and decorated the handprints with the many colours of the Rainbow Serpent. Thank you to Sufiel and Jasmine who carefully created a dot painting for the backdrop of our wonderful celebration of this fascinating Dreamtime journey!

Students have also been working hard on their multiplication skills and applying a solid knowledge of times tables. The Year 3s used a number of strategies to work out multiplication problems, it seems the most popular one is the Split Strategy for working out a sum with speed and accuracy. Way to go Maths Legends!

Year 5

This past week, the Year 5s have displayed the value of excellence during Maths. They have been learning how to multiply multi digit numbers together using the column strategy and have worked very hard in class.  Also, check out our excellent NIADOC artwork that both classes made about the Dreamtime story, How The Birds Got Their Colours.
